    Lake Ontario

Bottom line is to know your boat, know your level of expertise, no such thing as a sudden storm, pay close attention to the weather forecast and heed all warnings ! look ahead for weather, today's radar shows 24-48 hrs ahead of what is coming if you pay close attention ! Been on Lake Erie for...

    Correcting potential bad gear ratio

One inch of pitch equals about a 200 rpm change, one inch on diameter equals about 100 rpm change. These are general calculations that folks use to tune their props to their engine. So...based on your 3100 rpm with a 19" pitch......you would have to really reduce your pitch a bunch....better...

Why I'm nervous boating at night...

I hit a sunken object at 30 mph as well in 1986. No idea what it was but it was solid. Had my 18' Star craft CC running up the river at night. Downtown is well lit up at night but what ever was there was just under the surface and couldn't see it. Pushed the whole bottom of my hull up about...

The Lake will never be the same again

R/C boats are awesome....go electric as they are quiet and can go really fast !! Just have a way to retrieve one when it dies or flips over.. Add a piece of Styrofoam inside so it won't sink...

    Replacing bulbs with LED

The type of light is what they are talking about, how it is displayed. Whether incandescent or Led bulb makes no difference as long as it meets brilliance standard.

    towing - engine in neutral?

Just making a general reference to engine rpm....5500 or 2500, still designed to go round and round far faster than what any wind would blow !

    towing - engine in neutral?

Really.......I would think there are far more issues than this with OB motors. We are worrying about something that is designed to turn at 5500 rpm's, and whether the wind might affect it ?

    Add cleat to trailer?

When getting a new to you boat, you should check the cleats to be sure they are secure and have proper backing. Nothing worse than a cleat coming off and watching tour boat drift away !

    Shoreland'r Rebuild

Only recommendation I could suggest is to replace those rubber rollers with the yellow poly rollers, they roll much better, smoother and last forever. Never been able to get more than a few years from the black ones even in freshwater use only. Can't wait to see it all together !

    Advancements in peddle boats?

As a prior owner of a few paddle boats, let me say those plastic boats are worthless. Very inefficient !! If you want a decent one that works efficiently get one with aluminum pontoons. Much easier to peddle, doesn't catch rain water, easier to get in and out. No cheap plastic parts to...

Why I'm nervous boating at night...

We don't typically run after dark as there are to many crazy drivers out there. We are out on the 4th for fireworks and occasionally if we come in late from a ride. I have grownup on this end of the big lake, so after 60 years I am confident in where I am going, just not sure I trust others !!

FIshfinder shuts off when engine starts - Optimax 150 and Hummingbird Helix 5

Bottom line is, a second battery is needed if for no other reason is safety. If that battery goes dead in the water, can you pull start that motor ? Do you have a kicker that will get you back in ?? One main starting only battery then another house battery for everything else. You can put in...
