    Late 60’s Mercury outboard weight

Stress cracks on a 'glass boat means the transom is flexing and is rotten... You are going to have to tear it down for a rebuild before you even consider putting it back on the lake

Semi fitted boat covers, how to choose one?

I bought a semi cover off Iboats for my little 14' SC Holiday runabout. I forget which brand, but it's made of the cheaper fabric, but it's a major upgrade over the $50 universal covers from Walmart. It also cost triple that. I don't love the cover, but I don't hate it. Having a custom cover...

mercruiser 5.0 head gaskets new felpro..not stainless steel?

It says stainless laminate, which likely means that there is a thin steel core. Because it would be encapsulated by the stainless it's a way to make it cheaper but still effective.

    Late 60’s Mercury outboard weight

BUT, on the other hand, you don't buy a vintage Merc to be reliable, you buy it for the black beauty hanging on the transom..

    Late 60’s Mercury outboard weight

Merc's were lighter as they were built to be faster... A 4cyl Merc was in the 250lbs range so it's logical. Johnson/ Evinrude were built to be workhorses

    1986 Yamaha 200 Slow Starter

You can load test a starter to see if it's good. Commutator starting to get worn, brushes getting carboned up and/ or worn and bam you get a slow start. What it does is draws more current than the battery normally delivers.. Booster pack gives it a jump and it gets good power again. The other...

    Cayuga Seneca canal

I've looked into depth into it. Any of the big boat launches are good. Sampson or the one in Geneva. There is a lock right onto the canal at the north end of Seneca and the canal is part of the river. Just keep your times within the lock hours. There is also Cross lake up river

If it still exists, Stingray or Great Lakes Skipper are the only 2 that would have it

Need help with my 3.7l mcm 180

For a couple bucks you can buy a cheap rebuild kit for a 460 and then buy the gaskets and marine specific parts you need for that mutt of an engine. but machine work will be horrible.. I deal enough in Honda and Subaru to know that open deck engines suck... I would never bother rebuilding one...

    Amazing marine goop?

I couldn't find it at Home Depot this year, but I know a way out hardware store carries it.. I bought some at the marine dealer where I bought my boat trailer at the same time and they discounted it for me to $27 per tube.. It was there and I knew I needed it so while they sold the trailer for...

    Amazing marine goop?

I've used it, but I would never, ever in a million years substitute it with 5200.. Totally different products.. And fwiw, I wouldn't use it on a boat. I sealed a plastic rain containment barrel and yeah it worked. 3M 5200 is available at some home centers and hardware stores as tub and tile...

    Renault 90 Mercrusier sterndrive

You'll have to find a set of OEM service manuals. Ones printed in the 80's would still have the Renault stuff in them. The manual you need goes back to '64 IIRC.. Very few people even know they existed anymore, and very few parts exist if at all

    Alumaloy Brazing Rods...

There is a plastic stick that one of the big box sporting goods places sells, which you heat the rivit with a torch and then press the stick into it, and it seals it.. The aluminum welding rods DO work and they are very cool, however I would not weld/ braze a rivit

Need help with my 3.7l mcm 180

A seized 3.7L is a boat anchor, basically not rebuild able or worth it really.. It shares the cylinder head, rods and pistons from a Ford 460, and those parts are easy to get. BUT the camshaft and crankshaft are not standard parts and have not been manufactured since the very early 1990's A...

    1974 Starcraft info?

The American was one of the 'glass boats that SC built in the 70's... TBH they weren't the best at it and aluminum was their main gig but the boats were decent. A soft floor on a glass boat that is 40+ years old means rot.. transom/ deck/ stringers
