    Mercruiser 4.3L lift points

You seem to have at least 2 problems the water in the cyls & perhaps a bad starter. Now you have to figure out how the water is getting in (bad exhaust system, blown head gasket/cracked head) and repair that. Then change the oil repeatedly till you get the water out of the oil. Spray fogging...

    Mercruiser 4.3L lift points

You can tell if there is water in the cylinders by removing the spark plugs & cranking the engine over (try to start it). If water comes out of the spark plug holes that’s bad; it could be a leaky exhaust system (remember the exhaust system on inboard boats is water cooled) or an internal engine...

    Different risers and elbows

Or you will have persistent leaks at the rubber exhaust hose connections.

    Mercruiser 4.3L lift points

You have the old big Delco style starter or the newer smaller PMGR style? If the Delco you probably need a new solenoid. If the newer smaller style do not hit these with a hammer it will break the magnets inside! However first check every connection in the starter circuit & battery cable...

    Mercruiser 4.3L lift points

Actually you should not have steam like that esp with the engine temp of only 120*F. You problem is that the rubber hoses feeding the exhaust elbows are kinked (too short) and the elbows are likely not getting enough raw water flow hence the exhaust steam. My OMC Cobra has the same engine and...

    Mercruiser 4.3L lift points

A couple things One if the engine doesn’t crank over I would first remove the spark plugs to make sure there is no water in the cylinders. If there is you have to find out why it could be an exhaust problem or another engine problem. If not then you have to troubleshoot the starting system. That...

    Russian spacecraft crashes into moon

When Grumman built the LEM in Bethpage Long Island (1962-1972), the had a staff of 7,000 people working on their first spacecraft. It was quite a time here on LI, Grumman was so busy that they had to stagger work schedules to avoid massive traffic back ups.

    Russian spacecraft crashes into moon

They don’t do too well with nuclear reactors either Because they were designed to produce both n electricity and weapons grade plutonium

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

Yep points & condenser, 4bbl Q-Jet, no vacuum lines lol. my next Jeep I want to be a classic Jeep, non-molested by the EPA, powered by this same engine, same carb, etc. The 4.3 V6 is a popular swap into CJ Jeeps due to the short length, shorter than an inline 4 cyl. Simple stuff that can be...

1989 OMC 5.8L Stern Drive, Rough Starts

Who rebuilt the carb? Adjusting idle mix is part of it Points which I think yours has need regular maintenance….I grew up with cars that all had points it’s auto shop 101 stuff… Yes the ESA is supposed to engage only briefly when shifting from in gear to N. But; things can go wrong with it…...

1989 OMC 5.8L Stern Drive, Rough Starts

Does this have points ignition? If so has the dwell angle been checked with a dwell meter? Also if you have a Cobra system make sure the ESA isn’t staying engaged when you shift into either gear. It should lower the idle only when you are shifting from either gear into neutral. When those micro...

    1989 Trophy, Adding 2nd Battery

I use this simple way of keeping both charged with the switch…#1 on odd # days, #2 on even # days. I usually get about 7 years out of my batteries before they won’t hold a charge…

    4.3 low pressure fuel pump

Aftermarket is a crapshoot but Carter makes OEM fuel pumps so it’s probably the safest bet if not buying Merc OEM. This is why I like old school carbed engines with mechanical fuel pumps. A brand new Carter pump is $75-$80 and the best carb kit you can get is about $60.
