I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, I've been working on the T-brace since yesterday. Several hours each day. And yet I remain frustrated! Yesterday I worked by myself. I put the templates in place, traced around them and got them cut out. But I just couldn't get the angles on the pieces to match up after several...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Had to use the hole saw to get the screws out one of the pieces. And a prybar with the BFH! The boy really liked doing that part. ;) We're all done for today. We now have templates for the next step. I call it good progress even though it isn't much. We also got the Gravely fixed and...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Thanks WM. I'll use the 3/4" ply. And now I can actually move forward! That stubborn T-brace just wouldn't come apart, no matter how much we tried by using screwdrivers, vice grips and whatnot. So the boy suggested drilling the screws out. Tried that too and only got the heads torn up...

    Sunset fishing

Went to a local lake and fished from the bank for an hour or so this evening. We didn't catch any fish but it sure was nice being out there! I was keeping a close eye on the clouds, as there were thunderstorms on both sides of us. I caught this pic of the wispy clouds. The photo is NOT...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Hi guys. Sorry I haven't replied. Had a big time medical scare a couple days ago and it took the wind out of my sails. Looks like it was a false alarm but I have an appointment on 12Sep17 to be absolutely sure. Scared the crap outta me though! Anyway, I've decided to go with Option 2...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got some more pix this morning and have a better idea of what I'm up against. The T-brace is composed of 4 pieces which can be disassembled. The vertical upright has two sections. The rear section is longer and is the part that bolts to the top two horizontal cross pieces. It's not the best...

    Critical Errors?

Heavy sigh. :blue: I was trying to put in a big reply on my Kingfisher thread late last night. Kept getting the error shown in the screen shot below. After a few attempts I opened up a new iboats instance and got Critical Error. Yeahhh... breakin' my heart over here. It was after...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, we did a little "drip and glob" sanding yesterday morning and then got the second coat of light gray porch paint onto the insides of the hull. That's the good news. :joyous: The tougher part has to do with that T-brace at the bow. Got the screws out and the interior and exterior...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

So when I went back into the house this afternoon I got sidetracked and didn't get my nap, afternoon coffee or any more boat work done. Ah jeez. This evening I did get some photo editing done though. I've decided that I'm going to paint the aluminum trim glossy black just like...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Message received and understood. Will check it out when I get back to the boat. Question: Should I use a different type of stern eye? Or maybe modify this one by removing the pins? The ones on there now have those pins to keep it in place by preventing rotation. I'm sure they would work...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Indeed, no deadline does take the pressure off. Ya know, I'd not thought about that T-brace before. It was there when I bought the boat and I never gave it any consideration. But I suppose that other similar boats use an arc shaped piece of wood to maintain the shape and structure. Yes...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Man, these Critical Errors that we've been getting are really breaking my heart. :blue: But on the good side of things, we made some nice progress today. Got the inside of the hull cleaned, sanded with 320 grit, cleaned again, then wiped with cleaning vinegar. While all that was going on, I...

    Critical Errors?

I had several hours of CE errors last evening but all seems okay now. I guess this must have happened...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, I finally made a decision on the doubler question yesterday. I decided to go with 1/8" x 4" extruded aluminum bar stock from my local aluminum supplier. Bought three 6-foot sections yesterday. Plus I also bought a pair of 1.5" x 3" white painted L-sections (also 6 foot) which were...

Boy did I get my eyes opened today, Repair shops are out of hand!

To bring everybody up to date... I went over to our AC shop last week and explained what happened on our vacation trip. Diagnosis - my wife's car needed a new compressor and evaporator. Estimated cost to repair was $800 - $900! So we traded the car in for a brand new 2017 Hyundai...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Gotta tell ya folks, that boy is something else. He's growing fast and getting smarter every day. For example, while we were working the deck yesterday, I mentioned an obstacle to him. And without any coaching from me, all by himself he worked through the issue and came up with the Watermann...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Been a busy week but "we" are working on the boat again. (That's the Imperial "we", don't ya know!) ;) We put the deck in for a dry fit today. Mind you, the deck is not secured so the sections aren't tight to one another or to the hull. The fit looks good to me. Have a look at that glossy...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Oh yeah... I finally finished cutting the grass yesterday, 10 days after starting! The Craftsman tractor problem turned out to be a small air leak at the new fuel filter. Closed it up and the tractor is back to being "old reliable" again. The Gravely, on the other hand, has a...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got the topsides of all the deck sections painted this morning with the traction sand added. Definitely gritty looking. The 9" roller made it easy peasy. Overall, we have 2 coats on the top, the final coat has the traction sand, and just one coat on the undersides of the deck sections. (BTW -...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Today we got the undersides of the deck sections painted. They'll need plenty of time to dry because it's raining here. Gonna be like that all day and much of tomorrow too. I'm only putting a single coat on the undersides. With the paint on top of the OTF, it should be fine. Tomorrow I plan...
