Can the base of engine work? Two to bolts under engine are rusted and can

Wonder if that bolt broke/corroded off. Remember that much of the beginning of this thread were half assed attempts to work around rot... Losing that bolt would go with a rotten transom.

    Bellow replacement job

After mine failed the last time I didn't try to fix. Never even bothered to hook them back up when I did the engine swap, and disconnected the gauge when I was chasing gremlins a few weeks back. My to do list is always too long to even bypass the limit switch 😄

Sticky Throttle cable? Shift Cable? Help!

Usually if the cable is bad, it activates the switch inappropriately. And then a lazy owner will disconnect the switch rather than replace the cable.

Sticky Throttle cable? Shift Cable? Help!

Check to see if your shift interrupter switch is working. It's supposed to momentarily kill power to the engine when you're coming out of gear. Without that working, it will be hard to get out of gear. It's a small switch centered in a v-shaped plate near the shifter cables. Push the switch, it...

    Mercruiser 3.0 No Spark issues

Bigger bit is easier to see what you got, maybe ¼". Try plugging the exhaust and idle relief ports and then filling the pipe. Dunno if something simple like a bag and rubber band over the prop and stuff something in the ports would do it. It wouldn't need to be perfect, just enough that you're...

Mercury MCM165 6CYL 250CID Exhaust Riser for Holley Sniper

The snipers are coming down in price to where they're getting competitive with a brand new carb. Especially for a custom build, I think having a/f data is invaluable. Having spent a lot of time at it, you can tune a carb on a boat "good enough", but without a way to get objective data you're...

    Mercruiser 3.0 No Spark issues

I'd drill the transom to find out for sure. It takes 10 minutes. Also don't know if your garden hose test is valid, as unless the exhaust is plugged you aren't completely filling the y pipe. In the water that's completely full.

Had spindal changed now water coming in back of boat

They would have had to remove the damper and belts... Literally no reason at all to do that. Also, there's no such animal as a spindal. Maybe some pics might help.

1990 3.0 mercruiser ignition voltage issues

Not too strange. In the start position the normal ignition circuit is bypassed. No...The issue is upstream of the problem. The power draw with the ignition on could be from the gauges, choke, or ignition system with the ignition on. But those are supposed to draw power. Not sure which wires...

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

Alright, found my problem! I love stupid easy stuff. Interesting that I ran it like this all last season without noticing; it must have been like this since I installed the engine. Also after yesterday finally installed a new (bigger) bilge pump and rewired most of my boat lift.

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

Another 2 step forward 1 step back day. Replaced the lower after replacing the water pump and seals. Couldn't adjust the shift cable. Found that there was way too much play in the lower unit shift mechanism. Adjusted the throttle and lower cable in a way that would make @achris very upset, but I...

    Drain plug question

Don't use silicone below the water line. Use a marine adhesive, like 3m 5200 like Scott said. I also fancy loctite pl marine adhesive

    "Premium" vs "high performance" lube

Moot point now, wind picked up and had a buddy pick up some hi po at Wally world. Drained the premium and filled with high performance. Interestingly none of the local marinas had it. Only premium, including one marina that only used premium in 55 gallon drums for all their boats

    "Premium" vs "high performance" lube

So I think that the premium is fine, as long as it wasn't reformulated. I remember reading somewhere along the way that the high performance used to be full synthetic, and now is a semi-synthetic. I do Wonder why they are so adamant against mixing, and if draining the premium without flushing...
