    Unburned oil in the test tank is normal. Do an overnight soak of all non rubber bits of the vcarb -- in real carb dip (available at auto parts houses in 1-gal cans). Theb liberally blow out every passage with generic carb spray. Odds are the ignition is fine. What is your actual model (not year)?

    Correct Luis, Is it running now? If just not running well, clean the entire fuel system... from tank to and including carb. There aren't even any parts catalogs for that oldie.

    Yes, that is the upgrade procedure. You may need a different gasket at the restrictor. Otherwise, they are identical motors.

    Yep. Verify fuel system from tank strainer to carb and clean the carb properly. Then re-test.

    That pump is specific to the Evinrude.

    Any good J/E dealer should be able to help. That aside, why does the OEM matter? Just buy appropriate Evinrude parts, and you will get the appropriate stuff.

    Nice videos. And if something is obviously wrong, they will help. But with odd intermittent issues, sometimes swapping is the only definitive way.

    You will likely need to cut your own gasket. I just leave the hoses as is and run 50:1 while purging as usual. Since the TLDI is no longer made, I don't expect many of these. I love them, though. Great 2 stk performance, and 4 stk emissions/economy.

    Yes. Those CDs are very rugged, and coils are cheaper, so if swapping to test, I would also do the coil first.

    NO. If true that there was a 4 hp motor, the throat is bigger on the 5 carb. Changing the jet and tube will just make it too rich.

    Yeah, I understand. I thought I could change that pump in 20 mins... nope. As I recall, the pump is a stamped/crimped unit. It's a solenoid operated pump. The leaky one I replaced was leaking at the bottom, and there is no seal there. Had to replace. Mine was under warranty, so no cost to the...

    Complete pump replacement, as the pump itself is likely leaking. I have done these. It takes longer than you think.

    Never saw a Tohatsu 2 stk 4 hp motor; just the 3.5 and the 5.

    Looks just like a Suzuki Evinrude I worked on a year ago. I confirmed thaqt the LU drain plugs were not the typical 8 mm of the Tohatsu, but rather 10 mm Suzuki size.

    Possible, but difficult to isolate unless you have spares to swap in and test. A weak spark might not show up in neutral.

    Tohatsu 4 stroke 9.9 series started in 2000. You may have a Suzuki Evinrude.

    Bearing carrier leak

    After nearly 20 years, I would reseal the whole LU with a new kit. The prop shaft seal may be weeping. There is only the one o-ring that seals the prop shaft housing to the LU, so if that's new and everything is clean, that's not it.
