Nissan 2002/2003 70hp TLDI has been stored 3 years - what should I do for sure before startup?

Not bad to "break in" with some oil premixed. Always do the complete wp kit, not just the impeller.

Outboard will only go into "Reverse" gear if propeller is in a certain position

Also, never replace just the impeller; always do a complete wp kit. Same labor but pumps better and lasts longer.

Removing carb from Tohatsu MFS 20C

If acarbed outboard will sit for more than a day or 2, I always run the carb dry. If you leave fuel in it for a week or 2, you are asking for gunk. You can drain the bowl if you forgot to run it dry. Pulling the intake only involves a few 6mm bolts with 10mm heads and it pops right off...

New Tohatsu 3.5 HP (MFS3.5C) Won't start after it's warmed up.

Yes. Easily flooded. Don't use choke for restart. Open throttle for lots of air. If still fails, pull the plug. If wet, flooded.

    NS55B

Nah. It's more like the old 45A through 70A, both of which are long obsolete as well. If well maintained, the impeller is available, and the rest should continue working until an electrical problem sends it to the scrap heap.

    NS55B

Indeed the 55B is very obsolete. A few bits are available. No wp kits, but the bare impeller is available. A few individual carb parts may still be available, but that's about all.

I would go to any good local hydraulic repair place. Kits were never made for those, but the complete pump is still available.

M5B Prop Shaft Housing - Factory Service Manual…

The M5B is pretty old, so you may need to persuade the housing out. Yes, you need the housing out and pull the prop shaft fwd, then the seals can be driven out with a drift. May as well get a complete LU seal kit and do them all. Don't forget the 2 o-rings for the cam rod.

    Installing Rectifier / 9.8 Nissan NSF9.8A2

If your motor is electric start (looks like it), it has an alternator. If not (rope start only), you will need an alternator in addition to the rectifier. Full info is in the Factory service manual, Part #: 003N210561 List Price (MSRP): $43.75, but FWIW, the rectifier is plug-and-play. It mounts...

Yep. Old style carb is NLA, and no kits. Some individual bits are available if needed, but I agree with Matt. A good cleaning first.

The 9.8 4Stroke Mercury/Tohatsu motor... is the same block as?

As always, the motors are made in families. The 2.5 and 3.5 are identical except for the carb. Same for the 4/5/6. Also the 8/9.8. Only difference is the carb. Depending on version, the 9.9 and 15 are similar as well. The new 9.9/15/20e are identical except for flow restrictor and ECU.
