Coupler pin lock & tow hitch receiver pin lock

Cut off (torch) more than a few of both kinds for people over the years. Have never felt the need for a receiver lock. Just not a problem locally. Had a time when someone (kids?) would flip the catch on hitches. Had a couple of people loose trailers pulling out of the parking lot. Now I just...

Should I opt for oil delete? confused. seeking expert consult

I’ve owned and run both Merc and Evinrude oiling systems. The only failure I’ve experience was a blown oil cap (on motor cap) on a Merc 175. Blew oil all over the inside of the motor cover. Real mess Made it back to the ramp with a sandwich bag and a rubber band. Put fresh oil lines on yours...

1400 RPM loss from 13 to 15 pitch!!!

Then you certainly know that you're not going to figure out what is going on from a single data point. ;) What does your data at 1000, 2000, 3000, 3500, 4000 and 4800 rpm look like? How do those result overlay on your motors' power curve? What you'll find is your out of Horsepower trying to...

    Deck draining to bilge

Off the top of my head Grady, Parker, Proline, Judge and Whaler all still build walkarounds and or pilot house. Lots of “offshore capable” DC on the market as well. Having said that, Walkarounds and pilot houses perform poorly offshore. I’ll take a center console over a either configuration for...

    EFB Batteries

Typical grp. 24 deep cycle gets you 80+ AH No such thing as a “deep cycle” starting battery. ;) Battery switch to combine the starting and trolling batteries is cheaper and more reliable than a jump box, that needs to be charged a well.

Can you use 2 stoke oil in a prestolite, trim pump?

2 stroke oil is full of solvents. Not good for orings. Used NH 134D hydraulic oil when I rebuilt my unit two years ago. Called for Dexron but figured I’d go one step better since I had 5 gallons left over from changing the tractor hydraulic fluids

1400 RPM loss from 13 to 15 pitch!!!

Not necessarily. It’s called a torque “curve” for a reason. Once you pass peak HP (rpm) it’s drops off rapidly. Doubt it. You had a dramatic change because you changed prop designs. If you stay with the same prop design, your back in the 200 rpm per inch range. At what rpm? Recommend running...

    EFB Batteries

You really need to do the math. Options are limited in that size range. You need AH and starting batteries are not designed for AH use. By 5 or so AH. Not worth the $$$ over the standard 24M dead cycle. That’s up to you to decided. No getting around doing the math. How much power do you...

    EFB Batteries

The Interstate 27M EFB battery appears to be a rebranded standard, 27M deep cycle (I run two) for use in cycled, hybrid automotive use. Same size, weight and AH rating If it were me, I’d replace the grp. 24 with a standard 27M. Gives you the reserve AH the starting battery isn’t providing yet...

    Gas turning milky

Define bad gas…. Either lost volatility (old) and varnished up (old)or full of water? Emulsified water will turn gasoline white. What do your fuel filters look like? If it’s water issues, using E0 isn’t helping your problem. The alcohol in E10 absorbs any moisture in the tank and harmlessly...

What is the next logical step?

What is the next logical step?

Means nothing. Marine Batteries typicaly die from abuse, not age. Step #1 Make sure battery charger is off and crank the starter for a couple of seconds to burn off the surface charge on the battery. Step #2 Measure voltage on both batteries. Should be between 12.6 and 12.7 volts. Step #3 If...
