Water in bilge? Bilge pump runs too often.

My guesses are . . . 1) rotting transom 2) corroding Y-pipe or related gasket 3) shift cable bellows clip missing 4) cooling system leak Is there a prize for the 'winner' ?

    Axius Joystick Question . . .

These engines are actually the in-house designed & built Mercury 6.2 engine, but I have not done much research on them. https://www.boats.com/reviews/mercruiser-debuts-an-all-new-6-2l-v8-inboard-and-sterndrive-marine-engine/ The 8.2's are (still) the GM 502 block

    Mercruiser 8.2 w/Cats & Closed Cooling Question

Yes, the in-house built engines (4.5 and the new 6.2) have full closed cooling on their 'SeaCore' versions. For some reason, the old school 8.2L does not have the full system, just the engine block, not the exhaust. I did a fair amount of research on the 'CAT' engines when I was doing my boat...

1990 ish Evinrude 25 HP - Screeching from the controls

I have a feeling is is an overheat issue, but won’t know until tomorrow. No time to do boat things today. I’ll make note of the model number then.

    Battery discharge. ...normal?

Battery drain is why I added solar power to my boat. It seems that with all the new features on boats these days, there is more stuff to keep alive. You may want to see if you can chase down what seems to be running once 'everything' is turned off. Any chance you can have shore power hooked...

    DIY Swim Platform

I made my own 'custom' swim platform. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/custom-fiberglass-extended-swim-platform.712156/ Probably a bit more elaborate than what you may be thinking, but it certainly can be done. I am not sure you will save much money, if any over some of the commercially...

    Dumb-dumbs at the Dock . . .

Well, I do recall from driver education many years ago that if you hit a pedestrian it is your fault. I would imagine the same goes for swimmers. Regardless, fault or no fault any docking mishaps would not go well.

    Dumb-dumbs at the Dock . . .

We have a fair amount of people fishing off the dock - they tend to figure out fast that their lines are in jeopardy. People in the water around a busy dock is a whole other level. I’m guessing that the family never considered the element of danger. I always tell folks that boating is...

    Axius Joystick Question . . .

The 330 served us well. Mine had the Gen 6 7.4 MPI engines. My current boat(s) are in my signature. (Cruisers Yacht 338) The CAT engines are a bit concerning, but the 6.2 ECT Seacore engines (which is full closed cooling) are probably the best bet. I did want to stay with Mercury when I...

    Axius Joystick Question . . .

Do you mean do I still have a Formula boat? No . . . I did however fix the clutch on the Bravo 3s on my Formula 330. One of the clutches started having trouble at about 950 hours.

    STUCK 6.2L MPI

A 'ping' could be anything maybe the the key aligning the balancer to the crank shaft broke . . . who knows. Since you had to put a bit of force (torque) on the crankshaft bolt, it may be worth a look at the balancer/pulley.

Thanks @racerone . . . that would be a quick check to see if water is pumping.
