    Cleanning it sure looks like the only option. soak soak soak with a solvent and hopefully some movement will show up. IF the inner electrical coil was not damaged (fried) it may be salvageable. Being so crudded may indicated a need to service the VST and get your injectors serviced...

    normal fuel flow cools the pump body so suspect restrictions ..typically the return filter in the video at minute 1:38 in the video can be clogged causing a high pressure condition .. see comment on a EOB case from 2019

    see similar.. design on a 1980 engine maybe not identical but just fyi see the choke solenoid's purple white to the fat connector then over to the switch where it is activated as needed . (bottom right hand side of the switch diagram) Power to the switch comes from the purple-red...

    remember the pump works on PULSED grounds from the emm ( this simulates a 12v from the system's 55 VDDC supply by chopping it down in short bursts ). If you run it on a solid 12v battery...... keep the runs short. Backflusing may clear any crud from the inlet base filter in the picture...

    well the diagnostic would give you info of any detected anomalies on the pump (mostly electrical stuff) but we know the pump is running. IF you have EV diag. just check for any current active codes . Stored (past) codes may tell you about the engine's past life problems ! see link...

    Agree it looks like that........ but OP says they are pits not water ?? I blew up the picture with Powerpoint and perspective is weird to say the least . seems a bad gasket should drop the PSI's ??? . time to pull the cyl head and peek..inside .and post more pictures.. or wipe it :-)...

    when you choke the engine to start it and put the throttle at start or slow the fuel is sucked up into the top idle drip chamber then inhaled in the crankcase. did you take the carb appart clean the top chamber , check passage at the needle tip and.... the side channel leading...
