    Trim pump wiring acting opposite

If the PTT motor uses a permanent magnet for the field, and someone turned it upside down, the motor may act like yours is acting. Any possibility of that?

    Winterization

OK, so you don't use the flusher to add the A-F. Good for you, as that doesn't work very well.

Good morning everyone. I have a 1973 Mercury 850.im having trouble with keeping it locked while in use.

Maybe the plastic cam is stripped? Maybe you can wire it to stay hooked all the time, as it sounds like that would work for you.

    Winterization

Running antifreeze info engine via a flusher device is a fool's errand. it has very little chance of working, and very often leaves water in the block. It is better to pull the plugs, probe the drain holes to dig out the rust and debris. After the water drains out, add some antifreeze to...

Good morning everyone. I have a 1973 Mercury 850.im having trouble with keeping it locked while in use.

The motor should be locked down in neutral and reverse, and not locked in forward only. There is an adjustment on the rod to position the hook. Also the locking rod rides on the plastic cam on the shift shaft. Is it worn out?

    Unknown toggle switch

Often boats have switches for optional items never installed. I wired my GPS and radio to the wiper switch, since I do not have wipers, nor a GPS/radio switch.

    2 stroke winterizing?

Fogging keeps rust out of the bearings in the crankcase. The modern motors are pretty adverse to rust, so I expect it to be a good idea to fog 'em. I never fogged my '58 Johnny, since fogging hadn't been invented. Heck that motor fell into the salt water while running at high speed, and no...

How to Winterize a 1989 Mercury 175hp VRO removed.

Keep the fuel line attached. Do not run the motor out of fuel. No need to spray fogging oil into the cylinders.

Question on winterizing a Mercury Blackmax outboard

Keep the fuel hooked up. Make sure the stabilized fuel gets to the carbs, by running in a barrel or flusher device. Fog the motor until she smokes. Let her drain. Refill the gear oil, grease the fittings, wash and spray the powerhead with corrosion guard stuff. D/C and charge the battery...

    Boat Loading Problem

Get a pair of the side guides for the trailer. Put the trailer in deep enough to float on. Put a loop of line on the winch stand. After you float the boat onto the trailer, use a boat hook to grab the line and cleat it to the bow. Now get out of the boat and attach the winch strap, winch her...

    johnson 60 hp key

A lot of OEMs have only a few keys for all the ignition locks. Merc, for example, has about 10 different keys. If you have a parts place for your motor nearby, they may be able to try a few keys until they find one that works.

    battery charger alternative

If your motor is an inline 6, the max charge is likely 9A at high RPM. If a newer motor, it could have a 35 or 40Amp charging system. If a motor can charge 35 or 40Amps, you may get some charge into the trolling batteries, from the engine.

Add telltale pee hole to 1965 Johnson 75 HP

Gee, you said you would improve it, I asked how. I am an engineer. Engineering is the process of solving a problem. I have not seen anything from you that solves the problem. I also managed lots of engineers. Practical answers to problems are welcome. Impractical answers are advertising or...

Add telltale pee hole to 1965 Johnson 75 HP

OK, I'll bite. What changes would you make to the overheat circuit to make it robust? Remember it needs to be cheap.

    Anyone got any dynamite

Sounds like you have the wrong wire from the switchbox, on the #1 coil, or the wrong trigger wire firing the #1 coil. You might recheck all the wiring. The maxrules web site may have a wiring diagram for you.

Mercruiser 3.0L Overheated What to Look Out For?

Although I do not know if the 3.0l was ever used in a car, it is the same basic design as many that were used in cars, like the 4.3L V6 which is the v6 version of the venerable small block chevy 283 CID V8 used in the '56 and newer Chevys. They are pretty tough motors due to their cast iron...

How to Winterize a 1989 Mercury 175hp VRO removed.

Simple stuff. Should be the same as your Force motor, I would think. Add fuel stabilizer to fuel supply in proper ratio. Run motor in barrel or on flusher device at idle for a few minutes to get stabilized fuel into carbs. Spray fogging oil into each carb throat, and try to stall motor...
