    Ignition Compatibility on 150hp Blackmax

I don't have a spec for the older high speed windings (2 yellow wire stator), but would think they should be the same as the newer stators with the 4 yellow wires. You might get on the CDIElectonics web site and see if they have a spec or a test for the switchboxes.

Trim Tilt 3 toggle control wiring.

So you replaced the original 3 button panel with two toggle switches? Does your trim limit switch still work? With the right type of toggle switches, it can work, however, isn't easier just to wire a single toggle switch to run both the up and down solenoids?

    Ignition Compatibility on 150hp Blackmax

Mercs have windings on the stator for low speed operation and separate windings for high speed operation. You might check your high speed winding. The stator from the older motor should fit the newer motor, but you should check the part numbers on a site like crowleymarine.

    2008 4.3 mercruiser carburetor

Sure, but it could be other stuff as well. Does your motor have a carb or some sort of fuel injection? Do you have any spark? If no spark, check the shift interrupt switch on the shift cable, at the motor. When you shift, the ignition is killed momentarily. They can stick, and you have no...

    Antifreeze Question

So you are filling the block and manifolds with A-F for winter storage? I would use the cheapest automotive antifreeze, full strength, and drain and recover it in the spring. In freshwater, the RV stuff would probably work just fine, as well, do to very low corrosion potential. My 4.3LX would...

    Wiring Problem on Tilt trailer

A tilt trailer is not different from any of the others you have pulled, at least electrically. If your car has "Imported style" tail lights, you need a converter to convert separate brake, turn signal and running lights to work with most trailer lights. Imported cars often have separate bulb...

    Center console jet drive

You could install a jet drive outboard onto a standard CC. Most any OB can be converted to jet drive. There is a significant (say 30%) power difference between a jet drive and a prop drive, so plan accordingly.

You also need to change the distributor timing disk from 6 "windows" to 4 "windows".

    Need help

A distributor from an inline 6 will work on your 4 cylinder IL, if you change the distributor cap, and they are the same vintage. 1974 IL4s were the last year of the distributor models. The first 1/2 of 1979 were the last of the IL6 distributor ignitions. I am not sure the first year the...

    Carburetor's

Aim for 1/2 way thru the range. That is pretty much how it is done on other motor's, they just have a different range. You may want to make sure the timing pointer is accurate as well. For idle pickup timing, remember to set the throttle so the carbs are closed and ready to open. I remove...

    Carburetor's

Dave is correct, but presents it in a confusing way. Idle pickup specification is what you want, not idle timing. see if your engine is in this service manual. They have newer models with CDM as well as the older ADI ignition...

    Need a bit of help.

The firing order is 153624. The switchboxes likely fire alternately. So one switchbox should fire 1,3,2 and the other switchbox should fire 5,6,4. Swap the switchbox wiring and see if the problem moves. If so, replace both switchboxes

Disconnect the shift cable at the engine. Center the shift slider in neutral. Adjust the shift cable (control in neutral) to fit the shift slider.

1997 Mercury Optimax won't get on plane or stay running after first run.

Optimax's have a belt driven compressor, as they use both fuel pressure and air pressure to drive the gasoline into the cylinders. You might check the air filter on the compressor. A Mercury Optimax mechanic can put a diagnostic device on the motor, as well as pressure gauges on the air and...

    Carburetor's

Is that a Mercury service manual? The Clymer and Seloc service manuals often have big mistake in their instructions. I am not an expert on your motor, but all of the other motors that I have seen with ADI ignition have a spec for idle pickup timing that is in the ATDC range. I have never seen...

    Carburetor's

I hope you are reading the timing specs a bit wrong. Idle pickup timing is the point when the carbs are still closed, but ready to open. You need to set the throttle to the point when the carbs are just ready to be opened by the linkage. That is when you want the 2*-6* ATDC. Double check...

removing lower unit from Evinrude 1958 35Hp.25034 long shaft

I caqnnot tell if you have the gearcase off. I will assume you don't. Usually those mechanical shift motors have a hatch on the midsection, and another hatch under that in the exhaust passage. Under the second hatch is the shift rod connection. The bolts must be removed to separate the shift...

    Trim problems

Not all starter solenoids have a plunger that moves a gear to engage the flywheel. Most if not all outboards do not. Their solenoids simply make an electrical connection of two thick cables supplying enough power to spin the starter. The gear engages under centrifugal force. MerCruisers...
