2000 Mercruiser 5.0 Thunderbolt 5 Ignition idle issue.

Maybe. Adjusting the notches on the choke element only makes it stay closed longer, so it gives it more time to warm up to operating temp. is the thermostat working and the engine warming up to proper operating temp?

    Merc 5.7 hydraulic lifter enigma

I would use a crankcase flush in it like seafoam - put an oz per qt or L of oil in crank case and let it run a bit. I have cleaned up the varnish in older engines that were not well cared for oil change wise. Might have to do this a couple of times. I think I have seen some use seafoam spray or...

2000 Mercruiser 5.0 Thunderbolt 5 Ignition idle issue.

Adjust the choke as AD lays out , but if it stalls in colder temps when engine is warm you may to turn the idle mixture (not idle speed) screw out and fatten up the mix a hair. In colder conditions and warming up need a richer mixture. Can look at your spark plugs to see if they look white/lean...

Solas stainless 4 blades all the same?

Agreed I started with a pair of Michigan Vortex 4 Blades on my old boat (sea ray 170/3.0l) for more azz when towing skiers. Al was a good way to cut my teeth on prop swaps. My new boat I get bets holeshot with a Vensura but a lot of slip at WOT. The Revolution 4 I bought used on Ebay for $300...

Solas stainless 4 blades all the same?

I have both of these props and the nemesis is not a AL copy of a Revolution 4 no comparison between the two in performance... or cost. I was really disappointed with the nemesis/spitfire when i tried it insane amount of slip. Your point that it will likely be better than a black diamond is...

Throttle spring on 1981 Mercruiser 120. Courting disaster

post a picture of what you have. Some of the Mercs use throttle return springs in case the cable breaks but most do not. here is an example in a cut sheet of a 357 alpha. But it should close the throttle not open it To to mercruiser parts .com or marine engine .com and put your serial number...

    Another prop slipping thread

Yes if you looked at the dog teeth they are back cut so under load from the prop it cant pop out of gear… and this is why they use the shift interrupt system. at least you have narrowed it down to the coupler. was the alignment ok when you took it off ? You don’t rally have to fully remove the...

    Antifreeze Question

The cheaper AF i think does not have the corrosion inhibitors that the PG does have. like AD i also just drain, i do take off the supply hose from the outdrive and use a short piece of old radiator hose to dump a little af down each water jacket. I use about a gallon and figure any residual...

What size bolt to hold cable anchor near manifold

I would suspect it is 1/4” -20. A couple of ways to confirm look up your serial in a parts site like https://www.mercruiserparts.com/ bolt size is usually listed. measure the diameter of hole or stub of thread it will either be a 1/4”x20, 5/16” or 3/8” coarse thread

2000 Mercruiser 5.0 Thunderbolt 5 Ignition idle issue.

this is most likely cause based on info given. When it dies look down carb and stab the throttle see if any gas squirts in would bet carb bowl is dry until next cranking and fuel pump gets power off the starter. Oil pressure switch is above oil filter has two wires on it - I think it is purple...

why does my 1985 Mercruiser 140HP engine oil look like a coffee milk shake after overheat?

Likely a head gasket due to the over heat do a compression or leakdown test. Could also be the joint between manifold and exhaust elbow but if this were leaking you would see water in combustion chambers after running. Outside chance the manifold got hot and cracked the water jacket.

    Exhaust Manifold Question

I would look at Barr as they are generally considered to be comparable to OEM. GLM I think got hit or miss reviews here. Some comments on the sealing surface being not flat on them. You might look if you can upgrade to dry joints for added protection, at least if it leaks it won't leak into...
