Alpha 1 gen 2 shift cable adjustment

The control cable, you want to match the assist. I don't know know about a 4000 tho. I took the assist off and found shifting was better for me.

1/4" crown staples for bunk carpeting?

My concern with a staple that long would be pulling them after the carpet rots. The 1/4 crown will work fine..

Alpha one gen II growling noise when turning

Grasping at straws but you have already hit on most everything I can think of. Give a very through inspection of the gimbal ring and be sure it is not cracked. If it were partially broken it may flex when turned under power.

5.7L MerCruiser Bravo III under water...repairable?

No harm meant, it's just a pet peeve of mine, design and sales get in bed with each other and the next thing you know the parts of a machine that need to be worked on are jambed into an impossible place.. no consideration for the mechanic. I'm sure you don't have to deal with that.

Stupid mistake: Can it be fixed?

I guess what I'm saying is if the engine ran 2 months ago with no problem then you left it in the rain and it has water in it the last thing you want to do is turn it over without getting the contaminated oil out of it, the starter is the least of your worries..

Stupid mistake: Can it be fixed?

Well you're in the same hemisphere as I, so when was the last time this engine was run?

Stupid mistake: Can it be fixed?

Get the water out of the boat, drain oil and replace then try to start but not before changing oil. You might get lucky cause it's rain water and not salt. What's a mystery to me is how water got into the engine. Don't you have a cover on it?

I can't comment on quality but I put a spare 29 on the port side as backup thru a perko switch and it balances the boat and it's nice to know It's there.
