    The existing thermostat cover is removed and replaced by one that has a port into which the temperature sender/sensor is installed. Presumption being that you are referring to the use of a Yamaha standalone temperature gauge.

    There is not one. The reed valve assembly is acting as an air restrictor.

    Two bad regulators in a row seems improbable. But if every time the R/R is connected to the red lead the fuse blows, I can't see what else it could be. Have you tried disconnecting the input wires to the regulator? Don't know if a fault in the input wires to the R/R can cause the problem but...

    Try leaving the R/R red output lead connected but disconnect the two green input leads and see what happens.
