    Apparently there is no shift mechanism on that model. It starts, runs and stays in gear. Best be aiming forward when it starts. Reminds me of my dad's old Mercury tower of power. Crank it in forward and you are off. Crank it in reverse and you are off.

    Tank is overfilled. In which case it drains into the intake system. Also, the link attachment mechanism is known to get old and break. In which case the oil pump will default to the maximum oil setting.

    I would inspect the head for warpage per Yamaha's directions. If out of spec, you could have a few thou removed. In which case you might want to consider the use of a slightly thicker gasket.
