    Exhaust Bellows or Not

On a side note. I replaced the bellows on my Alpha 1 Gen 1 drive some years ago. I followed the instructions precisely, but was unable to get the bellows onto the flanges. MerCruiser cited some special tool, used to pull the bellows onto the flange. I ended up putting both bellows on the...

    1976 Mercury 850 85 hp with power trim - won't go down

Actually, you may need to loosen the smaller hydraulic hoses, to lower the PTT unit.

    tilt motor removal?

You think pulling the engine off the boat is easier than unbolting one transom clamp? If you cannot get to the PTT motor mounting screws, that makes sense, however, if you can get to the PTT motor screws by pulling 1/2 the transom bracket, that is so much easier. A lot of PTT brackets bolt to...

    1976 Mercury 850 85 hp with power trim - won't go down

Does the PTT motor run in the down direction? If not fix the wiring, or the PTT motor, or the solenoid (if it has a down solenoid, not all do). If the PTT motor runs in the down direction, but the motor does not trim down, trim it up for a second and then down. Also, check the manual tilt lock...

    tilt motor removal?

A lot of the PTT motor screws are accessible, if you remove the starboard transom clamp. Stick a piece of wood under the engine, to give it some support while you unbolt the one side of the transom clamp

ok peeps. here is a question.

Gee, jumper between the large battery terminals and see if the PTT motor works. If she no work, ARCO and others make aftermarket replacements.

Overheating at idle, cool as a cucumber at speed

The impeller can change the smoothness of the driveshaft turning. I would pull the impeller and then check the gearcase bearings for smoothness. Also, some driveshafts need to be pushed down by the waterpump base and shims, to set the driveshaft bearing into it's race.

    1983 Evinrude wire locating.

Generally temp gauge senders and overheat alarm switches are different. You might look on the crowleymarne site and see what your motor came with, likely overheat alarm switch. Check the head and see if there is a brass plug you can remove and screw in a temp gauge sensor. BTW- a water...

Need advice, 1996 125hp no spark now, won't start

On your motor, a single stator with multiple windings powers both the ignition and the battery charging circuit. A loose negative battery cable can easily damage the voltage regulator, causing a possible short impacting the ignition. I would disconnect the VR from the stator and insulate the...

1985 Mercury 115 tower of power

Part #14 and #17 can rot out allowing water into any cylinder. They can also warp, and make it hard for them to seal. The repair is a real PIA, as you realistically need to pull the powerhead, true up and/or replace the parts and bolt everything up, and then it maybe still leaks. I would...

Overheating at idle, cool as a cucumber at speed

The SS wearplate should have a gasket on each side. Put them on dry, and make sure to match the wearplate and housing with the correct gaskets.

The wire colors appear to be correct. Good luck with it.

    Mercontrol Rewiring

Purple is the new wiring color for ign power, replacing your white wire. It also needs to feed the choke button, to power it. Other terminals on the switch that you need are battery, solenoid (feeds neutral interlock switch in series), you will likely have a ground on the switch as well.

    Mercontrol Rewiring

OK, so it would appear that you need an ign switch that has an "I" terminal for ign power. Is that what you bought?

    Mercontrol Rewiring

On those MerControls, Mercury wired them so they will work with battery-powered CDI ignition, as well as ADI ignition. That is, they have an ignition power supply and an ign killer wire going to the motor. The motor uses one or the other. On an 1150, 1979 1/2 was the changeover from...

    Materials

The hardest part is to find a way to clamp the transom to the hull, while the resin sets. I glassed some pressure treated lumber to the hull, along the deck, and just under the splashwell, so I could screw the transom to the hull, after the glass was wetted out. I also installed the transom...

    slow drop on T&T, 1982 50 hp

Yes, an internal leak. Consider it "blowby" in the PTT cylinder. The check valves could also be an issue. A rebuild kit usually has them too.

    1963 Evinrude won’t start

If she didn't fire on ether, you have no spark. Even if the spark was well out of time, she would backfire on ether. Maybe your motor will not spark under compression? I would check the ignition plate for wobble, and make sure the coils are in the correct position on the plate, and the...

    Materials

Andy, I simply meant that your boat (and the vast majority of boats) are made of polyester resin, plus cloth and mat of the appropriate weight. Cloth comes in 1.5oz, 3oz, 4oz, 6oz, 7oz, 8oz, up to 40oz. Weight is per sq yard. Heavy roving cloth comes as 18oz, 24oz. Weight is per sq yard...

    slow drop on T&T, 1982 50 hp

Sure, a leaking PTT piston seal will do that. See if you can get a rebuild kit for the PTT and if special tools (ie spanner) are needed.
