Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

I made another red piece today - the inset piece to the bow rear backrest. The remainder of the backrest will have to wait for another day as I am quitting for now while I'm ahead. 🤪 I cleaned up my work area a bit, since I've been at this project for about 2-3 months. I did come across the...

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

One of the things that I am doing on the re-make is adhering a layer of 'drop cloth' plastic over the foam. The OEM seats have the typical very thin plastic sheeting (tissue paper-like) that is used to help the vinyl skin orient itself during installation. I am using a plastic sheeting that is...

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Slightly used (2-4 years) may still be an option at about 2/3 the 'new' price. Yet there are some nice boats that have just come out in the past 1-2 years.

And guess where the right-most screw ended up in the cushion it was supposed to be supporting . . . . . Yes, a solid 1/8" to spare (from the edge). One would think that since the backboard itself was routed on a machine, they could have drilled a few pilot wholes in the 'preferred' places . ...

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Thanks for the pictures, I did not go to the local boat show and not sure I'm going to make it to FL for any of the ones down there. So, the pictures will suffice for my boat show fixation. I usually wear my drinking shoes for boat shows - loosely tied sneakers that slip on & off. :D...

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Yes, to your point - boat seats are semi-automated at best. The backings are usually cut out on CNC and even the vinyl panels, but the rest is hand made. Take the photo below for example. This is one of the bow seating backrests for my boat. I have highlighted the screw holes holding the...

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Thanks guys. I knocked out another one while watching the Daytona 500 yesterday. Here is the pile of red that I've accumulated since Thursday ( past 4 days ). . . I'm about 75% of the way through, but the Helm seats remain and those look to be quite complex.

Just bought this pontoon from dealer, got home with no straps on back !

I towed my new-2-me 33 foot boat home without transom straps, but don't tell anybody 🤪

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

The Rear Facing Backrest is all set . . . I got the alignment of the black and the white quilted better on this one. . . Here is a picture of the French Seam across the top with the black top stitching that was discussed earlier in the thread. . . Time for lunch and awaiting the start of the...

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

One of the challenges with the rear seat backrests is to get the red & gray panels of each backrest to line up correctly, since they will be attached at their top with a piano hinge. Just checking the dimensions of the second skin (rear facing backrest) vs. the already completed forward facing...

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

I'm working on the rear facing backrest of the stern seat, which matches the forward facing backrest that I just made, except this gets the CY logo. I've applied a few things learned from the previous backrest to this one, so hopefully it will come out better. Here are a few work in progress...

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Here is the forward facing backrest of the rear seat. It does not get a Logo since it faces inside the cockpit area. . . The alignment is slightly off, so I'll have to make sure to get the rear facing backrest aligned better. I have to check the sewing machine adjustment. I'm starting to...

Watch how the woman makes the material follow the curves. I was doing it a complete opposite way and it was a lot more difficult.

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Here is the first backrest done. This one is the bow front backrest. It was fairly difficult to make, but it came out OK. . . It has the diamond quilting and the CY logo. It is also using most of the vinyl colors (red, black, white, gray). The other backrests have more of the diamond...

Yes, as red as red can get. Omnova Boltaflex Colorguard in 'Tomato'. . . it was also OEM on my 1991 Formula 242SS. I highly recommend it (the Colorguard line). Really durable vinyl.

Here is the first of the red backrest pieces . . . with CY Logo . . . . . . This is part of the bow forward backrest, which is 2 pieces. I'll be working on the main piece today/tomorrow. :D

    Windshield Replacement

Yes, crazy money for boat glass. Salvage yards may have something, else Taylor industries makes a lot of the boat glass, but is not a retail sales operation. There may be some custom curved glass houses, but those won't be inexpensive either. It seems like boat glass is far more expensive...

Maybe my turn for new boat time

The Cobalts are certainly worth considering. We were going to look at an R35, but I decided that the downward sloping bow was not going to be as ocean-friendly as I would like. It also seems like folks are not afraid of towing the large boats these days. So, you may want the flexibility of...
