Prop Locking Question (Reverse Locking Cam?)

This is a later version of your Gearcase, the Rear Bearing Carrier #63 is slightly different, as yours will have an Anti-friction Bearing Supporting the Reverse Gear while this one uses a Bushing. However it does show the Tapers on the Clutch Dog for the Forward Gear, and a plain Straight Tooth...

    Broken Skeg

I would prefer to cut the damaged Skeg off and have a replacement welded on. Of course if the Welder doesn't know what they are doing, some odd LU Geometry can result

    Broken Skeg

Those bolt on things have Bolt Heads and Nuts protruding into the Water Flow, in front of the Prop. Could lead to Cavitation Issues. I did say Cavitation, not Ventilation

    Engine support while towing.

If the Motor can be locked Hydraulically in the Up Position, I wouldn't use a Transom Breaker, as any shift of the boat on the trailer places a huge Stress on the Transom. If the Motor is tilted up and can bounce around, then I would use one

Mercury 50 hp, no power at prop, engine runs fine.

Impacts with Rocks usually don't damage the Shift Linkage, there might be a bit more to the Story that hasn't been disclosed. You might be wise step away

Mercury 50 hp, no power at prop, engine runs fine.

The shift shaft looks like it is One Piece, if it not moving at the Top, then there would have to be an issue between it and the Shift Cable

Prop Locking Question (Reverse Locking Cam?)

The Clutch Dog is pushed towards Neutral-Forward by a Spring inside the Propshaft. Did you have the Gearcase off Prior to this no shifting issue?

Mercury 50 hp, no power at prop, engine runs fine.

The serial # wasn't valid on the Mercury Site. If the Linkage is moving but the Shaft isn't going up and down, then it sounds like the Linkage is damaged/disconnected

Prop Locking Question (Reverse Locking Cam?)

When the Gear Case is in Reverse, the Clutch Dog Teeth are in a Channel, and the Propshaft has many Degrees of Arc, before the Teeth contact the ends of the Channel and stop. Forward Gear is a different Design, that has Ramps and allows full rotation in one direction, making the Clacking sound.

Mercury 50 hp, no power at prop, engine runs fine.

If the shaft isn't moving up/down, is the linkage between it and the Shift Cable moving, when the Control is shifted from Neutral to Forward or Reverse? Is the Cable moving?

Still need the Serial # As for the Prop and Hub looking Fine.... Is it a Rubber Hub Prop, or is it one of the Insert Hubs?

    Broken Skeg

In the End, I doubt the Insurance Company is going to spring for a New Gearcase, if only the Skeg is damaged.

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

When you have the Distributor Cap off, grab hold of the rotor, and see if it can be rotated a bit, then spring back. I don't know which direction on a Ford so try both ways. If it moves then springs back, then the Advance should be working, either or not is advancing at the correct rate isn't...

BBF: Big Block Ford, I would guess.

Prop Locking Question (Reverse Locking Cam?)

It will only turn a bit more before is locks again in Reverse. The Linkage is just backing off of the Pin/Shaft that is connected to the Clutch Dog.

    1976 Mercury 850 85 hp with power trim - won't go down

That was how it was Designed. To lower the engine, you pretty much have to open the Hoses to the Rams. I suspect the Engineers figured if you had to raise the Motor by hand, there was something wrong and the Unit would need to be serviced. In the 70s the Oil Specified was SAE 20
