That is a pretty serious crack, hate to see what the rest of the block looks like !! Quite noticible...you didn't see this before purchase ??

    Second mortgage for a carb?

No one said boating was cheap !! However, just because they advertise that price doesn't mean they sell any at that price !! People have a tendency to ask crazy prices for something they think is scarce, but how many actually sell ?? I have always had better experiences rebuilding with a good...

    Cold compression test question

No....not as accurate, but will still give valuable info. Basically you are lookung to see if there is enough compression for the motor to run, and are the cylinders within specs to each other. Typically you would get a little higher comp reading on a warm motor, but just to tell if the motor...

88' Force 85hp lower unit oil viscosity

Have you changed the lube recently to see if there are any metal chips in there. Metal chips can cause a whine..well worth a quick drain and fill to check !!

    Syncing carbs?

If you have multiple carbs....yes...they require sync to run right. Hope you have a " factory" service manual to follow to the letter !! No place to cut corners here!! Also use a factory rebuild kit with new parts, just quick clean and put back together rarely works !!

    Wheel bearing grease "oozing"

Your right, shouldn't have said that.....I do the same thing for preventative maintenence, but....a few years back, one of the BB came out somehow and the grease all flung out . As I was backing into my barn the wheel came off ( after driving 65 mph for a half hour) axle end was destroyed and...

    1986 Beachcraft 170

Same for the stringers inside, if you cant acess the wood directly then drill some small holes to check, easy to fill if wood is solid. All these tap and thump tests are useless !!

    Ok. Trailer time!

What does it take to get a title ?? Vin numbers can easily be changed with some simple hand stamps. Create your own vin # and call it homade. Not recomending criminal activity but when your states rediculous laws leave you no choice ????

    I need a tool, don't know what it's called...

The really small pin gages are often refered to as wire gages. If my memory is anywhere around they ranged from .025 down to .005 in diameter

Engine Alignment tool goes in about 1/4 of the way, question.

I always kept a few on hand, because at the end of every season I removed the outdrive for inspection. Let it drain over the winter then added fresh lube and reinstall at the start of the season. Never wanted to be without a new gasket !!

    Wheel bearing grease "oozing"

I might add, that at least once a year I slip a jack under the axle and raise each wheel/ tire and give it a spin. Check for any noises, easy turning, no slop/ play when side force is applied, then add a little grease while spinning until it comes out the overflow hole. If everything feels...

Where to get a boat cover?

A snap cover is much easier to install and remove, I would never own another strap cover, but to each his own !! In my area we often look for guys that do upholstery in old cars, many will do boat covers in there offseason at a better price than real boat cover folks.. I have had a couple made...
