Buying a boat with a rebuilt sterndrive??

The real concern is a boat for sale with a newly rebuilt engine and little/no hours on it. If the boat has been in use at a reasonable level for the past 5 years, then their is some credibility to the rebuilt engine.

    Co-Ownership Question . . .

Update: I cast a no vote to the idea . . . lots of complexities to the idea. Insurance is a big concern . . . then there are the complexities of usage and responsibility that many of you have touched on.

18 foot fibreglass bow rider minimum engine size?

Agree ^^^ I'm thinking about 2X of your current motor. It might be OK with one person, but not with 3-4. Boats need a lot of HP initially to get up on plane.

    Co-Ownership Question . . .

Thanks everyone. (y) My initial inclinations are well supported by your unanimous responses. I may tell my sibling if he is that anxious about getting a 'new' boat, he can loan me some cash.

    Co-Ownership Question . . .

Thanks, AD good comments. I think what would be different then vs. now is: Now: 1 Owner, 1 Captain, I'm the only one that takes the boat out (at the helm), everyone else is crew. Then: 3 Owners, 3 Captains, any of the 3 could take the boat out for their use. All would be fine until the...

    Co-Ownership Question . . .

I know this question comes up now and then, but I wanted to get some specific input. . . I have 2 siblings that we share a family summer house with. Each of us have family/friends come and stay, party like rock stars, etc. We all either beach and/or boat depending on the weather and what...

    Toilet Installation Mishap . . .

I probably will leave it as is for now and add a frame if it becomes a troublesome eyesore. :D

Didn't you ask this question a few days ago

    Toilet Installation Mishap . . .

Second installation without a mishap :D (y) I did a second bathroom this weekend . . . more of a makeover than the first bathroom. this one was new flooring (Vinyl plank) and new toilet. My learnings from the first installation paid off. The Admiral has now requested that I bring the...

    I/Os in salt water...

If you are in an area where you can have your boat in the water year-round, you should probably plan on 3 haul-outs per year to do maintenance.

Deck repair looks like might need new stringers and any other advice.

Bunk trailers make good cradles. Just add some temporary support at the chines and a wee bit of support up towards the bow if it does not have any and you will be good to go for a full cut & gut.

    I/Os in salt water...

Not much truth . . . I happen to have a Formula boat with twin I/O's (Mercruiser Bravo 3) and run in salt water, as do many people. My boat stays in the water 4-5 months per year. You will want good anode protection along with the Mercathode system, and lots of grease on stuff. Also...

    Doral 270SC

I'd try a 24P propeller set and see what you get. Since that is abouty all the boat that a single engine can handle, I would not go experimenting is the 25-26P range.

    Snow Birds: Beware!

Lots of folks use freeze alarms that call you when the temp gets too low. Now it is more common to have WiFi thermostats. I have a Nest T-Stat in the summer house ( 9˚ F here today BTW ) but 2 devices have crapped out in the past 2 years, so I'm switching to Ecobee brand. On sunny days, the...

    Toilet Installation Mishap . . .

Yes, should have gotten the higher-end model . . . However, the thrown awaits . . . . I got 3 more of these to install, so hopefully they will suffice. They flush better than the old toilets.

    Toilet Installation Mishap . . .

Update . . . The JB Weld worked (y) :D In looking at the way the tank mounts to the bowl, it seemed like the gasket assembly was/is a bad design - IMO. There is a combination gasket that seals all 3 mounting holes for the tank. The gasket also needs to act as a spacer in between the tank and...

    Hampton 220 interior trim

Google 'counter top edge banding' or 'counter top t-molding' . . . or . . . Google 'half-round rubrail with insert' You may not find an exact match, but should have enough variety to choose from for a decent make-over.

    Rookie move

Welcome to iBoats . . . From what I can see there isn't much damage. 😛 Did you notice any damage to the propeller? Was there dirt on the transom saver? Did you notice any damage to the transom (deformation, cracks, etc.) ?

    1990 larson all american 195 4.3 confusion

Serial number for the engine would help narrow down exactly what you have. What is a pointless coil? Not sure if the issue is pointless 🤪 1990 would probably be electronic ignition of some sort. Most of the Mercruiser part websites will have an electrical diagram for the engine . ...
