Pic of Milkshake spew all over my engine. Help please

if there is really a lot of water in the oil it is hard to suck out the more viscous mix, what I did initially was heat the oil pan a bit with a heat lamp (careful, monitor with an IR tem gun) to about 140* or so, then it pumped out more easily.

    Quit My Job . . .

agreed the best time for boating is early in the AM, summer week days before the air heats up and it gets windy, the Long Island Sound is glass smooth, you can run on plane for miles without having to slow down. I retired 5 years ago when I was 61, but started working part time right away and...

Pic of Milkshake spew all over my engine. Help please

About getting out the water I ran mine 4 times drained all the water & changed the oil each time. That got most of it out. On mine I never had the milkshake like that it was in the cam valley & under the valve covers.

Pic of Milkshake spew all over my engine. Help please

Well I don’t have a Vortec so for me it does not matter. However both OMC & Volvo had a service bulletin on this. I think what might happen is if someone drains the block BUT doesn’t disconnect the big hose at the circ pump, there could be enough water in there to cause a problem. Also I pointed...

Vortec 5.7 Intake Manifold Sealing Recommendations

You can use Perfect Seal, Permatex Aviation or Evinrude gasket sealer. I like the Evinrude stuff the best, but I don't think it really matters. When I replaced the cyl heads 5 years ago I used the Permatex and it was fine, also used it on the intake bolts, no leaks, no water in the oil. Remember...

Vortec 5.7 Intake Manifold Sealing Recommendations

When I did mine (Pre Vortec) I used Fel Pro intake gaskets & a bit of Permatex Aviation on the water ports and Permatex Ultra Grey on the China wall. No leaks 5 years later. BTW on the pre Vortec there are no locating pins to hold the gasket in place so the Permatex on the water port areas holds...

Pic of Milkshake spew all over my engine. Help please

If the intake cracks it will put water right into the cam valley and into the oil….but usually not into the cyls. Blown HG, cracked head, bad exhaust will put it into a cylinder

King Cobra (1993-1994) prop shaft removal

Only other thing I might do, before doing the Merc conversion, is if my engine doesn't need to be replaced, then get that spare drive rebuilt, this way I have 2 good drives and can avoid down time. Cost wise I think its about the same, as to convert to Merc, and if the engine's out, it really...

    Exhaust Manifold Advice

Can't comment about HGE but I used Barr Marine aftermarket on my 4.3 V6 Cobra and they fit fine.

King Cobra (1993-1994) prop shaft removal

What you said makes sense but you have to also think about how long it takes to find NLA spares, and a mechanic who can do what you can't. My garage is full of Cobra spares....complete spare drive, transom mount, power steering actuator, pump, trim pump, trim lines, exhaust Y pipe, fuel pump...

Volvo penta dp-sm splitting outdrive questions

I came up with a way to split my Cobra which is very similar & it will work for the Cobra, Volvo or Merc. You need a stand for the outdrive a piece of all thread about as long as the trim Ram rod that goest thru the drive and 2 approx 1/2” diameter bolts & nuts to retain the bolts in the...

King Cobra (1993-1994) prop shaft removal

Agreed before throwing a ton of money into this, if you want to keep the boat start looking for parts to convert it to a Merc Bravo set up. Won’t be cheap but a good long term solution if the rest of the boat is in good shape. Then sell off the OMC stuff on eBay to recoup costs. The regular dog...

Pic of Milkshake spew all over my engine. Help please

Also the intake gaskets for the Vortec have been more problematic than the older pre Vortec due to changing the design. And yes there has been debate about if those Vortec intakes will crack if that plug on the front edge of it is not removed. You should move on this though leaving it with water...

Before throwing in the towel check those bat wings for leaks. They are a known failure point.

Alternator Question - Only +13V when Moving

Modern alternators like an ARCO will put out 14.2 volts at idle speed (checked at the batteries themselves). If you only look at the dash mounted voltmeter you can get a lower than true reading because of high resistance in old dash wiring. I would check all battery connections including engine...

5.0 mpi runs rough when wet

Check your spark plug wires & distributor cap, when the insulation gets old & dried out it can allow misfires to happen, make sure that you don’t have water spraying from a hose behind the engine on the distributor. We had this on an older Subaru, when it got damp it would throw a misfire code &...

port side exhaust elbow over heating.

that elbow is just rusted scrap iron. I would use Barr Marine aftermarket on an older boat, they fit and work fine. I have em on mine 5 years still fine even in the salt. BUT....impellers and bellows....OEM first last and always. Even for my Cobra for which you can't just get OEM parts in every...

    Happiest Day of Ownership !!!

Yep looks great, dog looks happy! We launched my brother's 2020 Chap with the Merc 4.5 200 hp. Got a check engine light. Under warrantee so I guess I don't have to figure this one out. He's a tech guy so I might suggest that he pick up the Merc compatible scanner. Me, I'm still using...

    2020 Merc 4.5 200 hp check engine light…

On my brothers 2020 Merc 4.5 200 hp he just got a check OBD system light, I think the engine cut off at the ramp when we were launching it (also heard a warning beep) but it started right up. Guess he has to take it back to the dealer because it’s still under warrantee.
