    55 or 56

We ran a 57 35hp at 50:1 using the OMC Oils, never had any problems. In fact, OMC had issued a Bulletin stating that a lot of their engines, made prior to the 1964 Model Year could run 50:1 as long as you used their Oil. The older 24:1 and 16:1 ratio was still in place for use with regular...

    Help IDing a Johnson

    It looks like a 62 or 63 5 1/2. But the 5 1/2 used a 2 blade prop. The 10hp used a 3 blade, but it had a much different midsection

    1986 115hp inline 6

While the Engine is water cooled, the Switchboxes require air movement to keep from getting too hot. The Blanket, does smother them.

    Inline 6 Sound Blanket

By the early 80s, Mercury discontinued putting the Sound Blanket on the Inline 6 Cowl Wrap. At first I thought it was just a Cost Cutting move, however, it might have had something to do with the Blanket smothering the Switchboxes, causing them to get hot. 1986 vs 1999

Being that there is a 50hp difference, it isn't a case of being "basically the same". Who is claiming "said to be in like new condition"? If it is indeed like new, then 5 grand isn't too bad, considering the Gouge that a new gutless 4 stroke will induce

    Prop questions

Perhaps you just don't have the water in the Barrel high enough to insure the pump is primed. Another possibility is that the Water Tube didn't engage the Pump when you reinstalled the Gearcase, or a Grommet is missing. Also, the Key/Pin that connects the Impeller to the Driveshaft didn't get...

    Boat motor problems

Are the Clamps that attach to the Battery clean and in good Condition, and can clamp tightly to Clean Posts on the Battery? I am assuming that when you used a Booster, you were attaching it at the Battery. If you were attaching the Booster at the Solenoid or directly to the Starter, then the...

1987 mercury 115 bogs after full throttle

A lot of Fuel Lines did that, a particular 3rd Party Gray was Famous for that. However even Quicksilver Lines are now Gray, so all bets are off. The Hoses inside the Cowling would likely withstand the Assault that Alcohol does to them, being an 87
