Low RPM's and looking for higher top speed

The Outboard was 1998 150 FICHT on an 18 1/2 ft Glastron. It topped out a 54mph The I/O is a 2002/2004 VP 5.7 260HP, on an 18 1/2 ft Glastron. It tops out at a bit over 60 with the Factory 2 bbl, about 6-7 mph more with the 4bbl. Holeshot was weaker with the 4 bbl due to an increase in Pitch to...

Low RPM's and looking for higher top speed

You mention 350 Mag, earlier in the list you say 5L, which is it?

Low RPM's and looking for higher top speed

Still a lot slower than what my 2 Stroke Outboards did on the same OB version of the hull here is a longer vid, with the outdrive trimmed out the whole time

Low RPM's and looking for higher top speed

Based on the Rpms, you need to go down in Pitch, by about 3 inches, or ditch one of the 4 blades, and then likely the required drop in Pitch will be less. Are Both Props the same Pitch, or are they staggered, also are both 4 blades or one a 4 and the other a 3? I find the Holeshot on my 18 1/2...

When it comes to 2 Stokes, I love em, except for the FICHT. I had a 98 150, and though it never Blew Up, it was in the shop for multiple Updates to the ECU, new Cylinder Heads, Indexing of Spark Plugs, and eventually a complete 2001 Powerhead. All this was during the Warranty Period so I wasn't...

We had the 65 90hp. As you said it was easy to maintain, as long as you didn't mess with the Floats, all 4 of them. The 90 still had the itty bitty Prop, and almost no gear reduction, unlike your 100 1966 100hp, does't show the thumbnails

The 4 strokes don't have the Sound the 2 Strokes had. The uneven firing order of the OMC Crossflows, certainly sounded unique, and the Merc V6 had their own Chugging. The OMC V4s also had their own sound as did the Merc Inline 6s. When you ran the 2 Stokes on the Muffs, they Snapped, Crackled...

The last year of the Hydro-Electric gear shift. Back in those Days it was always a delight to see what new engines were being introduced and HP upgrades over the Previous Year. The V6s were still about 3 yrs from Production. These days the motors don't even have a Model Year. As for "New and...

4 strokes are so boring and Blaise, not to mention Heavy and sluggish. I can see a demand for secondhand 2 strokes growing, and hopefully a rise in 3rd Party engine parts, to keep them alive

    Reed Valves

If you put 10 towards the Flywheel, the Upper Cylinder has 10 Reeds and the Lower One would have only 8, so the CFM Flow isn't going to be the same for both Cylinders

    Reed Valves

So you are saying one cylinder gets 10 reeds and other gets 8?

    Reed Valves

Cause Mercury Engineers figured that 9 Reeds for each Crankcase would be enough to make 115 HP, that Model Year. I can't recall any instructions in the manuals regarding Orientation

Best way to waterproof plywood transom

One thing about sealed wood, or what was thought to be sealed, if any fresh water does get in, it will never get out, and that is when the Rot starts. Salt Water doesn't seem to rot wood as fast

What you are calling the Gas output is the Vent Hose. The Gas Outlet is the 90 degree fitting

    Another crazy car question...

The PCV was introduced in the mid 60s, prior to that, engines had a Draft Tube that extended below the bottom of the car, and crankcase blowby was evacuated this way. It didn't help purge the crankcase very well at low speeds or when parked. The early PCV systems were still open to the...

    Glastron SX 175 Gas Smell

Exhaust? Are you referring to the Vent? If you are trying to pressurize the Tank, it can't be vented. As for using a Compressor, that should exceed 3 psi in a Heartbeat. If you fill the tank, near full, it will only take a few pumps with a Manual tire pump to hit 3 psi

    Another crazy car question...

Blow By would create pressure, the spinning and reciprocating parts wouldn't create Pressure, Turbulence perhaps, but not Pressure, as half the pistons are going one direction, and the other half are going another, the air inside the Crankcase is still in balance. However, an engine with an odd...
