To fuel filter or not. 3.0

Most canister filters are rated at like 60 gph a 3.0 is going to use like at most 10-15 gph I’d think.

Blowby through vent tube? Mercruiser 3.7

Right now the issue is how to deal with the shop so that you have a good outcome. My thought would be to ask them to do a leak down test so they themselves can see where the problem lies. While the solution is not an easy one that is what needs to be done….

Blowby through vent tube? Mercruiser 3.7

Agreed those plugs look very oil fouled, kind of like my 35 year old Briggs and Stratton 3.5 hp lawn mower!

5.0 swap to 5.7 what carb is the best

I noticed that the price of Holley carbs has really gone up, some are pushing 750-800 bucks. Looks like the Edelbrock 1409 is still out of stock from Edelbrock including remanufactured ones, but you can get the 1410, which is a 750 CFM carb, not sure if that's too much for a 5.7. The reman...

5.0 swap to 5.7 what carb is the best

Both the Holley & Edelbrock use an electric choke so no difference there. If you use the standard cast iron intake you need an adapter (spread bore manifold & square bore carb). You can use an Edelbrock 1409 or a Holley 4160.

5.0 swap to 5.7 what carb is the best

If you want to stick with a 2bbl you can go with a Holley 2100. However if I were doing it I’d get a 4 bbl manifold and use either a Holley or Edelbrock (on back order now). I actually prefer the Quadrajet 4bbl but good cores are hard to find. I happen to have a good original on my 1988 4.3 V6.

    Electric Fuel pump conversion

If you don’t get quick starts with a mechanical pump there is likely another problem. Unless you are starting an engine not run in months because then yes the fuel in the bowl can evaporate. The first start of the season my boat takes 3 crank overs to start (mechanical pump, Quadrajet carb), but...

    Electric Fuel pump conversion

Exactly! Mechanical pumps are long lived and basically trouble free! The S wire (start) on the solenoid (yellow/red) does not get power when you turn the ignition on, it only gets power when you turn the key to start. That should work for you because by the time the engine starts (when you...

    OMC water pump reliability modification.

There is a company up in Canada, that specializes in OMCs and sells an improved plate for mounting the impeller, that might help. Here's what I've always done when changing an impeller: remove housing install muffs on lower unit turn on hose full blast and watch for a good stream of water coming...

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

I think you got it, there is a wall of water that comes up against the stern when you slow down, so it can happen that way. Combine that with no exhaust pressure pushing out the water and there you have it. Still hard for me to accept that Volvo thinks no flappers is OK though.

    5.7L Non-Vortec to Vortec conversion

about flat tappet cams, the only recent vehicle we have that has one, is our 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the inline 6. It has 180,000 miles on it now and no problems with the lifters, I've used Valvoline Max Life about the last 100,000 miles, not sure if that helped.

vista 268 - Loose or broken Wires near propeller?

well, that may work, I would cover the connections as they are with liquid electrical tape to keep out moisture so it lasts the season. that anode on the bottom of the transom mount should be changed though.

vista 268 - Loose or broken Wires near propeller?

The anodes & bonding wires are your first line of defense against aluminum corrosion; every season they should be inspected, and replaced if needed. Make sure that the anodes used are the correct ones in the water you boat in… Fresh…magnesium Brackish & salt….aluminum or zinc In fresh water...

vista 268 - Loose or broken Wires near propeller?

Also replace the anode on the bottom of the transom mount it looks pretty deteriorated. The one on the front of the lower unit looks ok. Repair; it’s just a matter of getting the parts & if the bolts come out easy. I would put Evinrude gasket sealer on the bolt threads to prevent corrosion &...

vista 268 - Loose or broken Wires near propeller?

Those tie together the alu components to keep them at the same electrical potential and reduce corrosion. This is especially important for boats moored in the water. I wouldn’t launch the boat before repairing that.
