    Removed the Wrong Screw

I think boats today while harder to service seem to be better built vs the older wood core/fiberglass construction. My neighbor has a 2005 Key West 2020 DC with a Yamaha 150 and the boat and structure look nearly new. Fully foam filled so it is also safer than older boats. She's owned it since...

    4.3 Chevy

If the engine did not overheat, the likelihood of a blown HG is quite low. Sounds like you got water in the oil because the plug was out, mechanic concluded it was from bad one piece V6 manifolds (could be true but in this case could also NOT be true) so he replaced those. However some of the...

that's a Merc number, if you used a Merc rebuild kit that # should work... look at this pic, the original Rochester carb # is circled in white.... having the original Rochester # enables you to get a better kit from Cliff's.

    Removed the Wrong Screw

Well Bruce I guess our experience was different then. Maybe because my former mechanics (since retired) were able to set it up perfectly right after I bought this boat in 2002. They set up the shift linkage, replaced some leaky trim lines and a bearing carrier that caused a leak. After that it...

    Removed the Wrong Screw

Or install it with Red Loctite lol. When this gets removed by mistake they just fall in the water passage that leads from the impeller housing. So if you pull the drive you just tilt it so the retaining plate falls out. No biggie. Still running my original Cobra 33 years old has needed next to...

Frozen Prop on SX-M Duoprop, Seeking Advice

Doesn’t look like the PO ever greased it. I’ve been using Evinrude triple guard grease on driveshaft splines and prop shaft splines for years with no problems. Even after 6 months being moored in salt water the prop just about falls off the shaft. Great stuff!

take a look at Cliff's high performance q-jet site, his rebuild kits are very nice plus he has the better accel pumps, and other better quality parts. Fast shipping and good customer service. Quadrajetparts.com is also good for whatever you can't get from Cliff's. A clean and properly rebuilt...

Not sure that’s a marine QJet because I don’t see the nipple for the mechanical overflow hose. If you use a mechanical fuel pump that safety feature should be included; in case the diaphragm leaks. If you use the old manifold make sure that it’s not rotted out under the thermostat housing; that...

I have the well type choke on mine and as long as the spring is in good shape (you can get them and many other Quadrajet parts from Cliff's High Performance Q-Jets and Quadrajetparts.com) and the exhaust crossover passage is not clogged with carbon they can work OK. They open slower than an...

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

Yes. 1998 Grand Cherokee. Haven't had to replace one of the those joints that have zerks either.

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

I'm not doubting your experience Bruce but I never had that problem always used the better Dexter double lip seals though. Maybe that is what makes the difference. If so that would be good for people to know.

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

PS the same thing happens if you over-grease a tie rod end, or ball joint. GM used to have relief valves on theirs to keep that from happening. With out old '98 Jeep I would just put my fingers on the boot when greasing those parts, as soon as the boot got firm, you stop. With the gun I use it...

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

So he did jack up and spin, but did he see grease come out? Had to be a bad seal and while of course that can happen, even with standard hubs, I don't know that we can say that the easy/super lube system is more prone to that problem, a failed grease seal can still leak grease onto a drum brake...

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

OK so the pic of the greasy brake backing plate, there's more to that story, if you know how these things work, you know that you pump it with the wheel off the ground, turning the wheel and in a short amount of time (unless its the first time you are greasing it) the grease SHOULD exit the...

    DP 1.95 SM outdrive hosed

agreed that's an insane price, as in typical Volvo Penta highway robbery. find a good outdrive rebuilder, learn how to pull and install your own drive, quit getting ripped off! I can get a totally remanned Cobra for 2500-3000 tops that's all I'd pay for one! Volvo will cost more being a DP and...

    DP 1.95 SM outdrive hosed

Just for the future but I follow the trust but verify principal, I check things before I let someone work on them, a minor hit like that can cause damage but the first thing I'd have done was re-condition/replace props, check for prop shaft run out and check gear oil. I trashed a prop on my...

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

Agreed but then for a boat trailer what’s the proper interval? That’s all up to your use. As I said if I were a trailer boater with trailer getting wet every time I’d be regreasing every 3 months or so, my point is with easy/super lube you SEE what the grease coming out looks like! So go by that...

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

well one other idea, is to have towing insurance that could cover such an inconvenience, I have this through Boat US, its actually quite reasonable, so if I had a problem like that I could get the boat/trailer flatbedded back home. However, not having a breakdown in the first place is even...
