4.3 mercruiser how to winterize with outdrive on

I've always just put the drive down and poured AF in the raw water intake hose till it came out the water intakes. There is a drain on the cooler but it's hell to get at. The Cobra drive has a drain where the intake hose passes through the pivot housing, these passages get clogged sometimes...

    Mercruiser 7.4 Starter Grinding/Partial Engagement?

Can you see the teeth on the engine flywheel? How do they look?

This is what killed inboards for me. Since 2012, all inboards have been required by the EPA to have this super expensive cat converter exhaust with upstream and downstream O2 sensors, just like modern cars. Mercruiser, Volvo, PCM, Crusader etc. And, when it comes time to replace them, I know a...

    Mercruiser 7.4 Starter Grinding/Partial Engagement?

comparing the lengths of the bolts and the amount of threads showing it is possible that the old bolts you used were allowing the starter to shift slightly under load. The bolts must clamp the starter fully to the engine block or else there will be problems.

I agree that outboards are very expensive to buy and to repair eventually. However, for newer boats, the I/O parts prices esp the cat converter exhaust are nearly as bad. I/Os made sense when the engines were simple carb engines with standard exhaust and outboards were less reliable 2 strokes...

    Channel Lock Stuck In Distributor?

In fact I usually put a bit of grease on mine just so it DOESN'T get stuck, and going back to the mid 70s when I started doing tune ups, never had a stuck rotor!

I didn't have room for 2 pumps so I wired up alligator clips and a bilge hose to a Rule 2,000 gph emergency pump that I can drop in the bilge if something bad happens. I did this after my raw water hose popped off the P/S cooler on the back of the engine, (2013) flooded the bilge with sea water...

how to change a prop on mercruiser alpha one outdrive 4.3L 2010 bayliner BR 195

if you have an electric impact gun that might work as well. Make sure the outdrive is in neutral, and you have something to keep the prop from turning as I mentioned above.

yes why does a boat plug need to be lighted? you got bigger fish to fry here! I think you need a good primary bilge pump, a higher up mounted back up pump and seperate float swtiches! did you change the oil yet? Don't forget you can just warm up the engine and use the garden hose threaded...

how to change a prop on mercruiser alpha one outdrive 4.3L 2010 bayliner BR 195

try penetrating oil like Kroil or Freeze off, spray on and let it sit. The prop should be remvoed once a year and the shaft and nut threads greased so that doesn't happen. I've never had trouble getting mine off and this boat sits in salt water all season.

    OMC 350

I'd get out of that multi-year and thousands of dollars projcet any way that you can! Unless your goal is to learn how to rebuild a fiberglass boat from the bottom up and repower it as well. But it is years, and thousands of $$$$ even if you do a lot of the work yourself. If you want a boat to...

If there’s water in the oil the water will be mostly at the bottom of the pan. I would pull the drive because you likely got water in the bellows from inside the boat; you want to also dry out and grease your gimble bearing & ujoints. Run the engine till hot & Change oil right away, might have...

Mercruiser 4.3L TKS Won't start when warm.

Right you may need to shut the engine off before shifting out of gear, till it’s fixed properly. Had the same issue with my OMC Cobra when I first got it in 2002 but the cause was different.

Internal Coolant Flush and Winterizing VP 4.3 GXI-BF

I think he said the AF wasn’t strong enough to protect against freezing. My pet peeve is that people don’t believe in buying shop manuals and self teaching. It’s ok to ask questions but really you need to have SOME base of knowledge!
