1990 Sea Ray 160, Mercruiser 3.0 with Alpha one gen 1

I had the exact same boat for 20 years. Year 21" is too much pitch for your engine I used a 18" 4 blade michigan wheel votex for tubing/cruising I used a 16" 4 blade michigan wheel vortex for skiing Both worked very well and were relatively inexpensive being aluminum Also make sure you...

Mercruiser 4.3 removing oil from bores?

5/6/7 are the wires . 6 red purple is 12 v + to dash 5 purple is ignition 7 yellow /red is to engage starter solenoid and thus starter i took two pieces of 14 gauge stranded wire , twisted two ends together and put them in 6. Stick one of the other ends in 5 for maintained power to ignition...

Connecting a electric fuel pump to 5.7LX

No the purple wire doesnt have power until the key is released from start into run position. Old motor was a mechanical pump right? merc did essentially have a second switch, the key triggering the starter…which powers the pump during cranking.

    Mercruiser B4S Conversion

has the forward facing dual props so you can safely wake surf behind it . Like the VP forward drive it is a way for stern drives to get into the wake boat market that until now has been the realm of really expensive V drive boats ...

    Carb choice.

I knew you would say that. bottom line when properly rebuilt, set up and maintained qjets, AFB/webber/Edelebrocks, and Holleys all work very well. Key is getting decent core carbs and having the knowledge and experience to make it work. When you hear comments otherwise one of these is lacking...

    Missing drive oil bottle ???

I don't think they take the project boats... only the shinny ones.

Connecting a electric fuel pump to 5.7LX

If you only use the purple ignition wire the fuel pump will not be powered during cranking. So when your fuel bowl dries out as typical when the boat sits for a couple weeks it will never refill and engine wont start. two ways around it - wire in parallel a momentary switch to prime before...

    Missing drive oil bottle ???

On the older Gen ones without one it wasn't much of an issue, especially if it is a trailer or lift kept boat. I would just check the level up top and bottom for any water or metal a couple times during the season.

Connecting a electric fuel pump to 5.7LX

This is what you want to wire. You may be able to get it off the yellow red which fires the starter, if you cant get it off the starter. you starter has three lugs on it though? Need to get 12v off starter during cranking then go through the switch off the purple ignition wire when in run . Yes...

got a question about a future V6 to V8 repower...

The 5.7 is the way to go. Hp diff between a vortec 4.3 and 5.7 is 225 vs 295, torque diff is 268 lb ft vs 370…and the torque curve for a 5.7 is flat http://marinepowerusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/57lspecs.pdf if you are running a 17 now you d probably need a 21 with a 5.7

got a question about a future V6 to V8 repower...

I did a 4.3 to 5.0 swap a few years ago in a Sea Ray 200 sport. If your engine compartment and stringers are set up for a V8 then it is pretty easy. I got a partial engine package from Michigan Motorz plus exhaust manifolds. Since the 4.3 and 5.7 are essential the same block minus two cylinders...

    Carb choice.

    Carb choice.

Likely a 750 cfm. They only made two sizes 750 and 850 cfm, i dint think if any of the larger ones made it to marine applications. bottom line any qjet properly rebuilt and set up is as good a carb as anything you may put on there. Question is do you have a rebuildable core?

    3.0 mercrusier stalling

When you say it runs good for a while, is that when it is cold and first warming up? If so i assume this is when the enrichment valve is open, then when it warms and closes it runs rough and stalls? if so this would imply that the idle circuit is either set too lean or plugged. Have you tried...

    Trailer Brakes or Not

Which actuator did you get? I. Sure there is a way to manual bleed it. Usually the breakaway has a catch so when it is actuated by the trailer coming loose the brakes stay on. Read through the instructions that come with it .
