    Snap ring predated the alpha drive, M/MR/alpha gen one ( all more or less the same drive) will fit on an MC1 transom housing, a common replacement maybe post some pics of drive and transom assy so folks know what you are working with.

    i think so but bearing may have been superseded since then So I’m not sure. You must have an early MC-1 with the snap ring holding in the bearing. A little before i was turning wrenches. @Bondo or @Bt Doctur would probably be able to assist with that

    A pair of V blocks, press, and dial indicator yes you can do it if you have some experience. You really have nothing to loose trying, or if you have a machine shop local they may have some experience doing this

    Take the plugs out and turn it over if water come out spark plug holes. if flywheel is going backwards that is indicative of some pressure in cylinders i dont think it would hydro lock that quickly as shown on video But easy to rule out

    Surprising only three years in salt would do it. I boat in the finger lakes in NY, unless you don’t drain it winterizing, they last the lifetime of the boat. On my old boat (3.0) i took the elbow off after 20+ years and it was fine.

    Agreed sounds like starter I would check there is no water In cylinder or does it turn over freely ? Otherwise starter is bad or maybe loose not allowing smooth retracting of gear

    Yes distributor needs to come out first, then usually some type of pry bar on the ends, they are just an oil sealing face with rtv Not a gasketed surface like between manifold and head throttle body can stay on
