Minor Surging After Carb Rebuild - TKS 4.3 '06

If it does not do it on the muffs but in the water it’s related to the load on the engine.

Minor Surging After Carb Rebuild - TKS 4.3 '06

Are you sure there are no vacuum leaks (gasket under the carb, any vacuum lines hooked up to the choke pull off, etc). Carefully make sure the bolts holding down the carb are snug (do NOT over tighten). I had a slight uneven idle condition on my Quadrajet that was solved by replacing the thick...

    OMC Bad Gas

That’s a LOT of water I think the only way is to pump that tank out or at least keep at it till you don’t see anymore water coming out! Then make sure the gasket on the gas fill is not leaking. Here’s what mine looks like every year, original tank 33 years old!

    Getting Shocked When Using Trim

I had this with my OMC Cobra with the original OMC control and what I found was that one of the wires inside had frayed and was touching the metal handle. I fixed it by sealing up the bare spots with liquid electrical tape.

    Back up camera on trailer

I have the magnetic eyeball camera that is used on the hitch. I needed it for backing into my narrow driveway from my narrow street. What I did was mount a metal plate above my garage door and when I get back from pulling out the boat I stick the camera there. Then I can see the driveway from...

What can cause this to shift bellows ?

Well that could be it. I have heard that beavers and muskrats sometimes like to chew on these. I’m in salt water so different problems. We can get barnacles on the bellows which can damage them. My next boat will be outboard only….

What can cause this to shift bellows ?

Is the boat kept in the water? It looks like marine growth to me. I can see the holes. Do you have beavers or muskrats?

What can cause this to shift bellows ?

Almost looks like it got twisted somehow. I’m not really familiar with the Alpha drives I’ve had an OMC Cobra for years they use a totally different design just the same as the Volvo SX with a tube that’s threaded into the transom mount with the actual bellows above the waterline inside the boat.

Burned valve or worse 1997 5.7 LX

I would visit some hot rod forums I bet there is someone who wanted to not run exhaust heat under the carb in hot climates. This was needed in automotive applications to provide heat for the old style well type (divorced) choke and also prevent carb icing in cold weather. Mine doesn’t get that...

    ANOTHER WATER IN OIL QUESTION

Agreeing with Rick I used Fel Pro head gaskets when I did mine 4 years ago and no sealer you just have to get the surfaces REALLY clean. I did use some Permatex Aviation sealer on the intake gaskets due to some minor pitting on the old intake manifold and also it helps hold it in place while...

Temperature gauge issues? Can't get a temp reading?

I’ve never seen one that bad even here in salt water! That looks like someone tried to use an automotive one in a marine application

Partial Power... Part of the Time!

It’s supposed to be 6* BTDC for base timing, plugs are AC MR 43T gapped to .035. Yes you run it at 3200 in Neutral to check total timing advance.

Burned valve or worse 1997 5.7 LX

With the old school well type choke you need the exhaust crossover with an electric choke you don’t .

Replaced rubber impeller now won't shift to neutral??

There are several: 1) safety no concern about fumes in the bilge, a failed bellows letting water in the boat or a failed cooling hose flooding the bilge 2) much easier to winterize 3) easier to service 4)better in shallow water 5) for the same hp, approx 400 lbs less weight & better performance

    Low Engine Temp??

BTW, I just changed my 1988 OMC 4.3 over to a 140* stat. I wanted to years back but could not find one that fit. After doing some research I found that OMC & Volvo used the same thermostat housing for years. On the V6s and small block V8s they both used 160* stats. However, Volvo used a 140 stat...
