    Hull vents

Don't move the vent, move the winch. The vents are in the correct place to ventilate the bilge.

How to make shift cable adjustments

Easy. Set the control to neutral. Now remove the wrap cowling and remove both throttle and shift cables from their clamps. With the control in neutral, move the cable by hand and make sure the motor is in neutral. It should sit, centered in the neutral detent. Adjust the shift cable barrel...

Replace frozen steering cable 1993 Trophy WA

Sometimes the rack portion of the cable unscrews from the cable. That would make it easier to get around that corner.

    Mercury motor swap

No, the PTT units are unique as are the transom brackets on each motor. I do not know if you could swap the transom brackets. Not sure why you are asking these questions. The original question was about using the newer PTT switches on the old motor. That is a yes, as switches are pretty...

What to use to repair stringers

I have used dry PT plywood and solid lumber w/o issue. I use only Stainless Steel fasteners, which stand up to PT lumber. Steel and regular Galv steel can be affected by PT lumber. Current galvanized nails and screws for PT decking use are double galvanized for corrosion resistance.

    2 stroke oil

To add to what Achris said. Your motor has a 2 cycle oil specification of TCW-III. Therefore use a 2 cycle that is certified as TCW-III. Amsoil is often not certified, and I therefore cannot recommend it.

What to use to repair stringers

I like to use dry pressure treated dimensional (solid) lumber, for replacing stringers and frames. it must be dry for the resin to stick to it.

You will want to repost this in the Mercury forum. Those guys are experts.

    Mercury motor swap

You may be misled. The PTT unit on your '82 is unique to motors of that 'svintage and older ones back to the 70s. The trim switch on your newer controller is compatible with the PTT unit on the '82. I doubt any of the components of the '82 PTT unit will work on the newer motor, as they were...

    Blower motor popping circuit breaker

Push button circuit breakers do wear out. Blowers can also get corroded. A resistance check on the blower circuit can tell you what is wrong. Alternatively, you could replace the circuit breaker with a fuse, rated for the current draw of the blower and see if it blows.

    Mercury motor swap

The newer trim/tilt control will work with the older motor. Unplug the trim limit switch on the '82. Put a jumper wire across the trim limit switch connectors on the main trim harness. Now connect the blue trim wire to the up side of the new control, and the green wire to the down side of the...

    Need help

Goofy, The wiring harnesses on those motors are pretty well shot by now. Has it been replaced? Those motors need to have +12VDC on the red and adjacent white wires on the switchbox to have spark. The CDIElectronics has a test for wiring, switchbox, distributor cap and other components. It...

    Trailer Wiring

I would measure the resistance of the brake light filament of the tail light bulb. Now measure the resistance of the green wire and yellow wire individually, and see how close you come to that resistance reading. Lower resistance means a short exists. Measure the resistance of the tail light...

    XR4 Blackmax 150 - can't find a prop to fit

Merc and others made props for the 4+ 6 cylinder inline series of Mercury engines for a long time. These motors had the 4-1/4" gearcase. I would expect those would fit your motor, and are available in pitches up to at least 24". I would specifically investigate props for a '78 or earlier...

1988 Merc 200 HP Smoking during warmup.

Yes, but the good news is that we will only have these types of discussions for maybe 20 years more. By then, almost no 2 cycle motors will exist. They we can argue about whether FC-W oil is the right stuff for our 4 cycle outboards, or whether we should use automotive multi vis oil. I cannot...

Mercury 115 loses power at 3000-3500 RPM, and none of my console gauges are working.

What year is the Merc? Inline 6, Inline 4? What kind of controls do you have?

OK Dingbat, so vast left wing conspiracy then.... I would not recommend to anyone that they run non TCW-III oil in their 2 cycle motors that call for TCW-III. Now there are some oils (Mercury?) that are rated for DI use as well as TCW-III use. Anyone who runs a DI motor on an oil not rated...

    1986 power head source

A short shaft motor is for a 15" transom. 15" transoms are found on Jon and aluminum semi vee boats 14- 16 feet and under. Likely Black Max's, being higher HP never came in that length. Long Shaft motors are for a 20" transom. There will also be a fair number of Black Max Xl shaft motors...

1988 Merc 200 HP Smoking during warmup.

A lot of Direct Injection oils are not TC-W. That is a different animal, as they are certified for DI motors, usually by the OEM. The OP has a carb 2 cycle motor, and should run TC-WIII exclusively.
