So I have a mercury 650 65hp and was wondering how to adjust my shift cables cause a have a little grind noise when shifting into gear and seen online that most of the time the cables just need adjustments. If someone can help me figure it out it would be greatly appreciated thanks

Easy. Set the control to neutral. Now remove the wrap cowling and remove both throttle and shift cables from their clamps.

With the control in neutral, move the cable by hand and make sure the motor is in neutral. It should sit, centered in the neutral detent.

Adjust the shift cable barrel so it will fit into the clamp, without moving the shift slide. Now adjust the throttle cable barrel, to push the throttle closed, with a little bit of preload, and install it's barrel into the clamp.
