Johnson 3 cyl 70 hp, 1986. No vacuum at one carburator

The inlines don't have Sealing Rings on the Crank. Those are used on the V4s and V6s. The inline engines basically rely on Oil to keep the crankcase sections separate from each other

Johnson 3 cyl 70 hp, 1986. No vacuum at one carburator

Spraying Starting Fluid into a 2 Stroke is pretty much one of the worst things you can do to it. Ether, the main Ingredient , is a very effective Oil Remover, and if a carb isn't supplying Fuel, that Cylinder isn't getting any Fresh Oil. Same goes for the Gas you tried, I hope there was Oil...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

The boat is little larger than I thought it would be. Do you have a Tachometer? If yes, what is the maximum RPM the motor can Attain? If no, get one. A tach is essential in choosing a Prop that allows the engine to run in its recommended RPM Range at WOT, which on your engine is 4800-5300 rpm...

A carb from another 40hp of the same year, would be best, as there were some Variations as the Years went along. From 1960 thru 62, the Carb had adjustable High and Low Speed mixture Adjustments, later ones had a Fixed High Speed Jet(with an exception in 71, but that engine was based on a...

Johnson 55HP Idle Screw Not Returning in Neutral!

Sometimes the Length of the Cables are labeled on the Cable itself, or are part of the part #. However you might end up taking the cable out to find it. But if you are going to replace them, they have to come out anyway. You could measure the distance from the box, to the Transom, then from the...

    Flywheel occasionally locks up

When breaking these engines in, you vary the RPM by about 1000rpm, after running it at 4000 for a couple of minutes, drop back to 3000-3500 for 5 minutes then go up again, I wouldn't go to Idle right after WOT, not on a new engine. Your engine has an Oil Mixing System, but Mercury used to...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

I suspect some of that is from the rounded Edge of the Transom. But the engine is bit low as well. With a lot of effort. you could Fill-in/Build up the Rounded Area with some Resin saturated Fiberglass Chop, and with some grinding sanding end up with a nice Abrupt Edge, that the Water isn't...

    Cranks but won't start

Sounds like a Current problem. Having a new fully charged Battery means nothing if enough power isn't getting the Starter. You need to insure that the Cables and Connections are good so that the Starter is getting enough current to spin fast enough to lift the Bendix. That also includes the Grounds

    Cranks but won't start

When you hooked the battery up backward, it instantly destroyed the Rectifier, which is likely the reason your battery isn't charging Can you raise the Bendix with your fingers, no power of course? You will have to rotate it
