Merc Outboard - 2 Year Old Engine Failure, 5 Year Extended Warranty Denied

The reason Fogging Oil was used on 2 strokes was to coat the Bearings in the Crankcase, not to coat the Cylinder Walls

    1150 Link & Sync Question

Being a 77, your engine has a has a WOT range of 4800 - 5300 rpm. A 19 sounds a little long for what you have it on. A lot of boats in my area were running 17" on boats between 15ft and 18 ft. But the only way to know is to run it and see what RPM it pulls at WOT. My first boat was rated for...

    Oil Change question

True, if it has sat, but most people warm the oil up before draining it, so it would be well mixed

    1150 Link & Sync Question

The timing is advanced to increase engine speed, then as it reaches a certain point of Advance, the carbs open a bit, then after the timing is fully advanced, further movement of the throttle opens the carbs fully. Once the engine reaches higher RPM, the throttle can be pulled back and this...

    Oil Change question

I was in my teens during the 70s when Canada started the Metric Conversion and I can switch back and forth quite easily. Fluid Measurements were always different to our neighbours to the South. Our cars/trucks always got better fuel economy(mpg) than the same car in the States. 😉 I used to see...

    Oil Change question

Those oil filters on Most outboards don't even hold a cup(8 or 10 ounces, depending on what country). As for the extra 2 1/2 liters out of the engine. Did it look like old oil, or did it look like Irish Creme?

    Increase ground clearance for off-roading?

Your Ground Clearance is only as great as the Lowest Point of the Trailer. Taking a Trailerboat off road isn't my idea of fun. Pack an Inflatable in the back of the 4X4 to explore places off the beaten path

    88 SPL Evinrude - Help!

Might be a High Fuel Level, but as I said those carbs, often pour fuel out of the Vents when the engine is tilted up. A few bounces while being trailered helps too. The Air Silencers on the Carbs had Drain Hoses to dump the spilled fuel overboard or in the Lower Cowl. Also any Pressure built up...

    88 SPL Evinrude - Help!

You can open the Drain of the Lower Unit and see if any water comes out, or if the bit of Oil that drains looks like Mocha/Irish Creme

    88 SPL Evinrude - Help!

Well 2 strokes send a lot of Fuel(gas and oil) out the Exhaust, and fuel also spills out of the carbs when the engine is tilted up... Gear Oil does stink to High Heaven compared to Fuel, so it easy to tell them apart
