    5.0 L 305- carb leaking

Probably time for a rebuild, either the needle valve is bad or a piece of grit is holding it open causing flooding. Or, the carb float is bad, absorbed gas and is heavy and that's keeping the needle valve open even when the bowl is full. That's happened to mine twice. New needle valve fixed it...

Need help!!!! 4.3 mercruiser just clicking

Nope blown fuse means no current flow. Clicking means not enough current flow. Somewhere between the ignition switch and starter you have too much resistance from corrosion or bad terminals. Do what I advised, get down by the starter and have someone crank it while you put the voltmeter positive...

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

I'd be replacing the whole thing. That's a shame sorry to see that. If the block cracked like that, the heads would have as well. However you can take the heads and manifolds to a machine shop to get them checked out, can always keep as spares, or sell off and recover some $$. I'd see about...

the negative cable is usually bolted to a stud on the bell housing. I have one on each side, for the 2 batteries separate grounds.

Need help!!!! 4.3 mercruiser just clicking

correct the clicking suggests low voltage to a solenoid, caused by corrosion (resistance), bad wiring or a rusty old solenoid. most production boats come with crap for battery cables, and stupid wing nuts for the battery terminals, toss out that junk use proper marine quality and gauge cables...

    Compatible Alternator?

wow that was fast, I have used them for both alternators and starters, they know their stuff.

    Mercruiser 4.3 cracked intake manifold

that looks like your raw water intake hose, I'm referring to the one on the other side that connects the stat housing wiht the front circ pump. The drain you have on there is not low enough to fully drain that hose but better than not taking it off. I would still disconnect that hose at the...

    Mercruiser 4.3 cracked intake manifold

Yep you need to: pull the block drains, poke the holes make sure it drains pull the lower end of the big hose that connects the stat housing with the front circulating pump, this drains a lot of water, in fact when I change the stat (I do this each year because in salt water they get sticky) it...

Have you measured voltage at your starter solenoid yellow/red wire terminal when someone turns the key to start? That in comparison to battery voltage, will tell you if you have a voltage drop.

well if there is corrosion where the bracket bolts to the engine then yes, it should be grounded. Remember circuits travel in a circle. Bad grounds (really return path is the proper term) will do this. Yes the battery is grounded to the engine but if the bracket has corrosion where its bolted to...

    Mercruiser 4.3 cracked intake manifold

What I did, to get the oil/water mix out, was to VERY CAREFULLY warm up the oil pan with a heat gun WHILE MONITORING TEMPS WITH AN IR TEMP GUN (no hotter than 150 degrees or so). This enabled me to do the first oil change (using a vacuum pump, it won't work unless the oil is warm) before...

    Compatible Alternator?

A suggestion is to call the tech line at ARCO marine in Florida, they may be able to tell you which of their products will work.

Claims its a cracked engine block

Who knows what they did, but it takes a pretty bad overheat to blow a head gasket. Coulda picked up a plastic bag on the lower unit and not watching gauges, or impeller or thermostat could have just failed, etc. important is the language on the bill of sale. "item is sold as is, where is with...

Need help!!!! 4.3 mercruiser just clicking

Remember electricity travels in a circle, so all terminals must be clean and tight, including grounds on the engine. And if you have wingnuts holding your battery cable terminals on, get rid of them, they get loose and cause exactly this problem. Use either nuts on those terminals with lock...

    Mercruiser 4.3 cracked intake manifold

Here are a couple of the older 4.3 pre-vortec intakes (1995 and earlier), I picked these up as spares because I'm in salt water but my orginal 1988 intake is still good believe it or not, just checked it again when I replace the 'stat. They tend to rust out right under the stat, if the engine is...

    can someone tell me what motors are in a 1987 28' Chris-Craft 283 Amerosport 262 ?

https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/carburetors/marine_carburetors/parts/0-80492 Here’s the carb I tried; as you can see it’s specifically calibrated for the 4.3 V6 engines. So what happened is I rebuilt the QJet and then took apart the Holley looking for a reason for the very rich...

If you have good access it’s an easy job. Done it 2x on mine over the years.

    Mercruiser 4.3 cracked intake manifold

I’m not sure of the reason but the intakes on the Vortec V6s are prone to cracking unless that square plug in the front of the intake is drained in addition to the normal engine drains. This is not the case on the older pre Vortec design in that it just drained when the engine was drained. I’d...

    Impeller housing overheating

There are 2 trim relays (1 up & 1 down) and one assist relay. The up will have a blue wire on it, the down has a green wire on it and the assist will have a yellow/red wire. Depending on how the engine cover is designed water can drip back there from rain and cause corrosion...might as well...
