Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Ok Ted I had the same issue with my OMC with the original one piece manifolds because the one piece design combined with the fact that OMC used long studs and nuts to retain the manifolds meant that the lower exhaust hoses had to be slid down first before the manifolds would slide off the studs...

5.0 Mercruiser MPI Broken distributor Screw hole

If you can fix it that’s good but a plastic distributor body and those infernal crab caps are 2 lousy ideas prepretrated on boat owners by either GM or Mercruiser!

    Hydrolocked - now what??

If you’re getting water in one cyl here’s what I’d do: Remove the exhaust on the port side check for evidence of water leaking in. Look at the top of the center exhaust passage at the top of the exhaust manifold. If you see that look at the exhaust valves see if there is corrosion on the stems...

Leaking still after bellows replacement. Help please

Besides the water test, other signs of a rotted transom are gelcoat cracks around the outdrive cut out and flexing if you pull up and down on the outdrive hard (careful don't knock yourself out). A few people have had luck with seeing if they can get at the nuts that hold the inner and outer...

New elbows on a 5.7 LX.

Interesting, I was having trouble imagining where there would be a weep hole. You can see how it got clogged, I guess they could have made it bigger! The part that cracked you can see how much thickness was left, not bad actually.

Leaking still after bellows replacement. Help please

On the Cobra the shift cable bellows is at the top of the tube that screws into the bottom of the transom mount and is routed up in the engine compartment. Follow the shift cable back and you’ll see it. In my experience these rarely leak. That tube will actually have water in it but it’s routed...

Mercruiser 4.3 thunderbolt sitting for 5-6 years

Agreed at the very least you are going to be cleaning out the gas tank, cleaning and rebuilding the carb and changing all the fluids once it’s running. Take a look at the you tube channel Mustie1; he’s a master at getting neglected engines running and very entertaining to watch.

1993 MerCruiser 4.3L V6 RAN OUT OF OIL

That does sound like a failure of the oil pressure sensor, I don’t think that much oil would escape even if the rear edge of the intake wasn’t sealed up correctly. Sorry to hear that! I’m always scanning my gauges!

    Winterizing a 2004 3.0 glm-b

You don't have to 'RUN' antifreeze through it, you can simply drain, poke the holes in the block and exhaust manifold, disconnect the bottom end of the hose from the circulating pump to the thermostat housing, disconnect the raw water intake hose at the impeller housing, point it down in the...

New elbows on a 5.7 LX.

good question, it just doesn't make sense to me for them to eliminate the drain, for the reason I stated above. I know that in some Merc applications it would not matter where the exhaust is raw water cooled since draining the manifold drains the elbow just like on OMC/Volvo exhaust. Another...

New elbows on a 5.7 LX.

Question.... If used on an engine with closed cooling (including the exhaust manifolds) wouldn’t the elbow require a separate drain in order to get the elbow to fully drain? I guess alternatively you could disconnect the hose feeding raw water to the elbow...

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Sounds like it’s all coming together!

    Hydrolocked - now what??

Well oil in the exhaust could have other causes....bad valve stem seals, worn/sticking piston rings for a few. Then if you had an engine oil cooler or power steering cooler if either leaks it may be possible to see oil in the exhaust. I’d do a compression test and check the exhaust carefully...

Need advise on bringing a 92 beretta succsess 200 back to life.

If that little tab that the choke spring hooks onto doesn’t move back n forth something is wrong with the choke linkage; but make sure you have the choke spring hooked on that tab correctly. The spring is a bi metal spring that contracts (cold) to close choke and expands (opens choke). It has to...

    Strange noise Mercrusier

Yep. The classic I/O problem and why I pull the drive at the end of each season. Check for leaks in the drive shaft bellows and replace bellows any time you see water in there or even see small cracks developing in the folds of the cracks. Every 5 years or so would be a good interval. I have...

    Hydrolocked - now what??

There is a Mercruiser document out there that explains how water gets in cylinders, but most often it can happen from the following: leaky manifold to elbow gasket---> puts water in cyl, then oil rotted elbow or manifold--->same rotted intake manifold---> puts water in the cam valley right in...

    Is there any hope???

P.S.: while the hoses on these last longer that on a pressurized system they still get hard over time. Tip: Check the small hose between the P/S cooler and transom mount, I had this pop off one year overheated the engine and filled the bilge with salt water! That eventually led to my top end...
