Looking for bare engine block with pistons

it is the second style with the center elbow. the first is for the older model V/P engines, looks like a Ford V8 set up. BTW, in my neck of the woods the 2 shops where I order parts, will not even order parts from GLM...they are referred to as GOOD LUCK MARINE. See if you can find something...

    Back on the Water

I have not heard anything about whether or not marinas are considered essential services in NY but they are in both NJ and Ct, so maybe if we are lucky our boatyard that is right in my neighborhood will be able to drop moorings and do bottom painting. If not then I have another big project to...

    No Pressure After Oil Change

Nope they used a one way check valve that screws into each exhaust elbow, when a vacuum develops in the exhaust system due to the exhaust pulses of the V6 Vortec engine, this valve allows air into the exhaust, to break the vacuum and stop water from being sucked up the exhaust pipe that connects...

    Thermostat Clean-Out.-

Yep that's for sure, it won't be too bad if you are trailering though, but forget about keeping exhaust manifolds and elbows for like 10+ years...Boat US once put out a chart...listing about how long you get in salt water before virtually 100% probablility of failure....its about 8 years...so we...

VP special tools and part costs?

Maybe muc can answer that, of all the people on the board here... As far as boat size, your deadrise also determines ride quality. My '88 H-200 is 20'9" and has a 21* deadrise at the stern and sharp bow entry and as such it rides excellent for a boat its size. One of the reasons why I kept it...

Mercruiser GM V6 and V8 oil pressure

Well on my old engine (both before and after the top end rebuild I did back in '17) I have always had different oil pressure readings at idle depending on operational conditions. For example, after a cold start oil pressure has always been at or slightly above 40. And as long as the engine has...

    Remanufactured Carb recommendations

Never experienced vapor lock with E10 fuels in my Quadrajet (and the old pre-vortec manifold does have an exhaust crossover passage unlike the vortec manifolds so it probably does run a bit hotter). However, I did have this problem on an old 1970 Ford Torino with a 302 V8 and Ford Motorcraft...

To start or not to start, this is my question.

If you are worried about rust in the cyls….try this.... disable the igntion system and remove the plugs, spray PB blaster in the cyls and let it sit a few hrs, Then follow that with fogging oil like we use for winter storage. Then spin it over with the starter, this just dissolves any rust...

2012 Merc V-6 I/O cat converter exhaust question...

I've got a friend with a 2012 Merc V6 I/O with the cat converter exhaust. Used in salt water just like out boat, moored approx. 6 month season. Their mechanic is advising replacing the manifolds and elbows as it typically done here with cast iron exhaust every 5-7 years. The cost parts and labor...

Use Antifreeze to winterize? Here's a choice few think of.....

If you use antifreeze to winterize (and there is as much debate on this point, as there is on motor oils), but let's just say Mercruiser has recommended it for years....for the purpose of reducing corrosion...not freeze protection per se....you always manually drain first...here's another I...

1999 4.3L Mercruiser Consuming Oil (Some Diagnostics Done-What Next?)

It depends on how you feel about having to be vigilant about checking oil often and having to add oil. On an older engine that is not really a big deal, it would only be if someone who was using the boat never checked the oil. Actually removing the heads with then engine in the boat for me was...
