    Some will argue.----Charge the battery.-----Have the battery load tested even if new.-----Take starter apart for inspection / ohm test on armature / possibly new brushes.----Not much money spent.-----I agree , low cranking speed leads to a " no spark " condition.

    A 1980 manual will do.-----These were essentially the same from 1968 to about 1990.----Some very minor differences.

    Run fuel out of carburetor when done boating !----An empty carburetor stays clean.-----Tiny passageways on 4 strokes can be restricted by fuel forming gummy deposits.

    ??----Have you used a drill press on a block that was still mounted on the boat ?----Just curious here.-----You mentioned ---" if you don't have a drill press drill straight not crooked " ----I believe.

    $200 ?------Local shop might make one for less.-----There must be a lot of used ones around for about $20 in my opinion.------Weld a piece of flat bar on a nut and use a long drift to drive that tube out.

    With a carburetor filled with the manual fuel pump it should run for at least 10 seconds.----Sounds like you need to adjust / inspect this new carburetor.

    Have you inspected / replaced the fuel pump diaphragm ?-----What # is on the high speed jet ?-----Is the exhaust path clear all the way to the prop ?-----Compression test values should be posted.

    Guessing does not work very well.----Some simple trouble shooting gets results every time.-----Will it start on #1 alone ?-----Will it start on #2 alone , yes or no ?

    In good condition they will troll for hrs.----Fouling plugs is a bit of a myth.

    Pull plug wire off #1 , will motor start and run ?-----Now try with #2 wire pulled off , will it start and run on #2 cylinder ?

    Your location ?----Do a complete inspection of this boat before spending any beer tokens.------Perhaps it has water logged foam under the floor.-----It is nearly 50 years old and there could be many things wrong with it.

    What are the compression values ?-----Does spark jump a gap of 5/16" on both leads ?----Checked the reed valves.----Checked fuel pump diaphragm ?
