    So now you have a motor ( 1971 or 1972) with electric shift .----And a motor with an ignition system that is not in the top 10 on the hit parade------Nothing wrong with the electric shift if you understand how it works.-----Not easy to find a shop to work on those.

    Have to start somewhere.----Drain inspect gear oil.------Perhaps remove lower unit and see if it is easier to pull over.-----Is the recoil starter properly timed ?-----Yes there is such a thing.

    Maximum timing advance is set at the factory.----Set for the life of the motor.-----Believe it or not idle timing looks after itself.-----Idle timing( 3 / 4 degrees ) is the point where throttle plates open up.-----Be very careful if you decide to start adjusting things !-----What is your motor...

    It will be hard to convince the gentleman , he is sure all is in good shape.-----Starter won't work.----Tilt won't work.----All an easy fix.

    Ontario Watercraft----Used to be the dealer in Hamilton.-----Factory in Barrie is on east side of the 400 .----Still there but divided up into various industrial units.

    Perhaps you are missing the fact that this boat might be a rotten mess ( transom and stringers ) under the floor.----And perhaps with a previous attempt at repairs.-----Look this boat over carefully before you spend any beer tokens on it.

    Shops used to clean / test plugs.-------Cost of the shop labour to do that today , often is more than new plugs !

    Take it apart again.------Now put lower unit in neutral.-----Have control in neutral.-----Assemble.------Or put lower unit in forward and control in forward and assemble.-----Your choice.-----Easy job when you understand how it works.

    I think there may be major damage on the crankshaft.-----Broken rod ?-----Bad crank journal ?------Piece of a piston skirt broken off ?

    That appears to be the 9.9 / 15 HP carburetor.-------Used on the much bigger displacement 20 HP.-----Correct that screw on the front is not an adjustment.------What is your motor doing / not doing ?
