Take lower unit off.----- Take the cap off.-----Assemble with clutch dog in forward and shift rod in forward ( up into the unit ) and install cap.----Install pin.
Well-----running time of 5 to 6 hrs every day will be tough on those boats.-----Locally we had a " poker run " out on the lake.------One or more owners had to go get their trailers as boats could not take another 1 hr pounding in 5' waves
They built a lot of those 48 SPL motors.-----I can not believe you could not find new / used parts to keep it running.----What parts were deemed to be " hard to find " on it ??
You might find that the Evinrude / Johnson drain plug is the same.--Will fit if Mercruiser uses 3/8-NC thread.---I have seen those hex allen ones stripped as well.
Very valid point.------The older 2 strokes are easy to trouble shoot.----Repair / rebuild.-----The 4 strokes are great when they run.----Start when you look at the key !!--Expensive to repair if you can find a shop with the right mechanics.
