    Well----You doubt the advice here.------But look at the 1968 model 85 HP and 65 HP.------Essentially the same motors as you have and the gasket is not shown on them.----Not even needed !!!

    Yes ,----If you get a good deal you might change them.----If that is not the issue you will have some good spares for next time !!

    I consider those gearcases to be less than robust.-----Tear it apart.----Inspect gears.---Replace pinion bearing.------Install a seal kit.-------Pressure test at 5 to 10 PSI.

    The pitting is from cavitation.----What pitch was the prop on the motor ?-----What pitch is the new prop ?----What RPM is the motor running at ?

    If it is 305312 then I would re-use it.-------That gasket does not do much of anything anyway.

    If----" it ran fine on his boat " ----as you stated the only thing you would have to do is adjust your throttle and shift cable.----Hopefully this does not go to a 50 post drawn out saga.------There has to be to this story of it running fine when you handed over the cash.

    Keep fuel to the shortest length.----Using 3/8" ID hose where possible helps the pump too.

    Use a wee jumper wire.----Go from battery post on the solenoid to the small post on the solenoid.----See if motor cranks.

    If the horn goes " chirps " and the primer solenoid clicks I would say the fuse is good.------I would take the starter apart for inspection and ohm test on armature.----That work will tell you a lot and costs NOTHING to do !

    Your speed over the bottom changes.----That is due to the water moving.----Motor still works the same !

    Are you pushing the key in while cranking it over ?------Have you battery load tested.------Take starter apart for cleaning , ohm check on armature and possibly new brushes.

    I do not believe a motor has to work any " harder " in a current of 7 mph than on a calm lake.

    The generators I speak of are 800 Mega watt.-----The general public knows very little of the basics of the electrical grid system.
