    Honda BF25 identification

It appears the model number plate/sticker is missing from the R/H transom mount, so I am unsure of the year or exact model number of this outboard. It is a Canadian model 4stroke Honda 25 with the following serial numbers: BAJS-3221134 on a small plate riveted to the center of the transom...

    Pretty overpropped.

Who knew there is a time limit for edits... Anyway, I found a picture of the boat before it was painted. It is a Fisher sv-18cc, rated for a 115hp originally from what I can google.

    Pretty overpropped.

Ok, its been awhile, but I just had it out again. 25mph is the best she'll muster. With the throttle lever full forward, I disconnected the cable at the motor, and found that there was no more travel for the throttle linkage, so it is indeed maxed out, so I can rule out rigging as a limiting...

Thanks for that! Top speed was never my goal here, just to get to where the boat/motor combo is happiest. Ill be taking it out later this week, and I'll get my gps speed as well.

    Pretty overpropped.

All my experience is with 2-strokes. I have rebuilt several outboards in the past, both Johnson and Mercury. However, this one was more than I wanted to tackle. Rings let go on 2 cylinders, and every other bolt was seized to the point of breaking them off. The trim motor was on its last...

    Pretty overpropped.

Thank you. Yea, I guess that statement should be clarified by stating the old OB was a worn out, and terrible running 1980's Johnson 88hp 2-stroke. So of course a good running 4-stroke would put it to shame. I guess what I should check is that the motor is indeed getting to WOT. I know on a...

    Pretty overpropped.

I recently repowered a 18ft center console aluminum boat (brand and any model numbers have been painted over). Installed now is a used, but in great shape 2004 Johnson (Suzuki) 70hp 4stroke. It came with a 13x19 3 bladed prop. First run, the motor runs amazing. Using a BRP engine check tach...

Old to new-ish Johnson repower questions.

Thank you KevinM207! I've squirreled away that wire diagram for future use. Yea I ended up bolting it to the block, where another ground point is. It doesn't seem like the factory place, but the outboard starts and runs fine with it there, and I am able to route the cable out of the way of...

    Whats this beside the telltale?

Thanks. Just did some reading, after knowing what to call it. Makes sense to me now. Cheers!

    Whats this beside the telltale?

2004 Johnson 70 4stroke. The telltale on this is a little cap (right, on the pic) with a hole that you can direct the stream where you want it to go. But beside this is a little open rubber tube (left) that shoots air/exhaust from the outboard when running. Can anyone tell me the purpose of...

Engine cooling properly in the lake, overheating with muffs!

What size and year of outboard? I have had several in the past that did not do real well on muffs. Little or no tell-tale stream. Put it in the lake, or in a barrel, and it works great.

Old to new-ish Johnson repower questions.

I have a 16ft center console boat with a old 1988 Johnson 88hp that had a couple pistons come apart. I am repowering with a 2004 Johnson (suzuki?) 70hp 4-stroke. Motor is mounted, and its onto wiring. I am wondering the normal ground point is for the battery cable on this outboard. The...

1999 Johnson 25 carb help req.

Well the verdict is in. It worked an entire weekend camp/fishing trip. About 2 tanks of fuel through it and still going strong. Which is good because my replacement carb still isn't here yet. I still honestly do not trust it enough to go out somewhere remote, with mine being the only boat...

Ah ha! I overlooked the year. Very good point.

    Motor wont start....help please

Something to more to check, after you have confirmed spark and fuel, is the flywheel key. Partially sheared will throw timing off enough you can't get it to run right. Fully sheared and it won't run at all, but you will have spark, just at the wrong time. Get your fuel sorted out first. A...

1999 Johnson 25 carb help req.

Now it was back to my makeshift pin press to overdrive it through the carb body so I could then add some sleeve retainer to try and make this tube stay put. I added the retainer goo, drove it back flush, and then quickly cleaned off the excess, and blew shop air through the tube to ensure it...

1999 Johnson 25 carb help req.

Ok, a bit of an update. The carb is several weeks out, so it was time to attempt a temporary fix so I can still use the outboard while I wait for a new carb. The design of this carb lends itself to pressing out the idle pickup tube. You could not do this on the vast majority of carbs, just...

Yup, every part in that kit looks the same as the carb I have. No going back now, I just ordered it!

1999 Johnson 25 carb help req.

I bumped down 2 years to 97, and pn: 0439378 sure looks exactly like the carb I have, and it fits a 25. The 1999 25J carb is the same pn again. The bonus is that it is still available, for a decent price ($165 US). I do not know for SURE if it is the same, but I think I'm going to take the...
