Open for some help on this one. My four stroke Yamaha began running rough while in drive and pushing black smoke from the exhaust by the prop. Shortly after the motors stalled at Idol. Could only restart with wide-open throttle to keep the engine at high RPMs continue to run rough with black...
Going to check compression.
Maybe allowing the motor to idle and pump water to cool is a good idea before stopping the motor in hopes to prevent vapor lock?
Do not have a battery voltage gauge on the boat to tell running voltage. Added the battery voltage when charged to eliminate the battery as the problem.
Appreciate any support on this one.
I have a late 90's 50 hp Yamaha 4 stroke that runs like a champ and will start right away when cold. Once the engine is warm or I cruise for a bit and shut the motor off, IT WILL NOT RESTART. The starter motor turns the flywheel and the engine won't turn...
I’d go for the 90hp! You can always run it slower hahaha. Not sure about filling the holes. I opted to fill with screws on my 1966 Jetstar.
Question, where did you source that spec page from!!??
Thanks for the suggestions here. In an attempt to remove I could see there is no way for me to disassemble this unit. Best case I find a full replacement and swap it out. It is mounted in the dashboard super tight that’s for sure.
Working on my 1966 StarCraft and notice the pilot hose was not hooked up to push water pressure to the speedometer. Easy fix right!? After I reattached and went for a ride on the lake I figured out why it was disconnected…
Anyone have a solution for this? Going to begin disassembly and attempt...
