    Sick of snow......

It is snowing again and its supposed to be cold and snowing this week. I really want to see my new boat but there is no sense in bringing it home and unwrapping it yet. Perhaps in May.

Choosing a portable toilet for Islander 221

I need to buy a portable toilet for my Starcraft Islander 221 and I am thinking of buying a Dometic Sealand 976 which has a 5 gallon holding tank. I am not going to be using this but my 7 year old girl and wife will be. Does anyone have any opinion on this unit? It looks simple enough for the 7...

Cleaning fiberglass tub surround with marine products?

I have some serious hard water stains on the fiberglass tub surrounds in my house. My wife cleaned them years ago with an abrasive pad (even though the label on the tub said not to) so I'd like to polish the gel coat out, if possible. She didn't clean the entire tubs with her scratchy pad so...

Do gas prices affect your towing speed?

I always find myself slowing down when fuel approaches $6 a gallon. I set the cruise at 100kmh (62.5mph) and it takes as long as it takes. The boat doesn't drag nearly as much air as a travel trailer or a flat deck with a truck on top but I plan on slowing up a bit and get a couple more mpg.

Why does wood rot so fast? Did tall ships rot this quick?

I've seen boats as young as 10 years old with rotten floors and transoms. I can't help but think wood must be the worst material ever for boats but then I thought of tall ships, schooners and man of wars. Some of these ships lasted longer than the men that sailed them. Better wood? Treated wood...

Thinking about installing an ez loader swing tongue kit

The EZloader that came under my new Islander 221 doesn't have a swing tongue. The kit is around $500 in Canada and I was thinking about installing one to lessen the length. Has anyone heard of any issues regarding the swing tongue EZloader kit? I remember year ago there was some kind of recall...

Had enough of these wacky boat dealers.....

I've posted before about my warranty concerns on my new boat and how the dealer refused to work on it ( http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=530026&highlight=islander ) but I think I'm resigned to the fact that I will do all my own work regardless of what it is. I went to the local boat...

Difference between Merc 9.9 Pro Kicker and 9.9 Bigfoot?

These two motors seem to weigh the same, have the same 2.42 ratio, same prop, same leg length... Anyone know what the difference is between the two?

    2003 Honda 8hp for 22ft boat?

I don't know a lot about these motors but I would like to know if this 8hp would be a suitable trolling motor for my 221 Starcraft Islander which is 22.5 ft and just under 4000lbs. And what kind of price would I offer for a good long shaft example? I was thinking $1200? Would a different prop...

    Kicker install for Islander

I am pricing out some options for a 4 stroke kicker. The boat is a 221 Starcraft Islander. I was told I would need the motor, transom plate and controls. The salesman said the boat has 2 pickups on the main tank and that I need to install lines for the motor but I also need a second set of...

U.S vs Canadian used boat prices

I can't be the only one who has noticed this but why are older boats in the U.S so cheap compared to Canada? I see prices that people pay and I know the same boat out west in Canada would be 2K more. We don't have a lot of the rot issues and with a 3 month season the boats don't get as much use...

    Why all the small pics?

iboats has become one of my favorite places to visit and I very much enjoy reading the threads about boat restorations. But I have to ask, why do people attached such tiny little images? Maybe there should be a sticky with instructions on how to use photobucket or the like? Even after opening...

    Local Mercruiser dealer won't warranty?

I may have a slight dilema. I bought a new 2011 Starcraft Islander 221 last fall. I bought it 2700km away as there were none available where I live and my local dealer only sells Crestliner. Anyway, I called down asking about fitting my new boat with everything it needs. I need an anchor...

Outdura cover color selection, just pink and green?

For my 22 1/2 ft cuddy I am limited to pink and three choices of green? Who chooses these weird colors? And why? Or are iboats covers just leftovers from somewhere?

Buying the right fish finder/depth finder?

I would like to equip my new boat with a fish finder. I admit I have very little knowledge regarding this so I have been reading. I would like GPS and color. Since I never owned such a device I have no favorite brand. I will be in fresh water with sand/mud and rock bottoms. I would like to spend...

Cover for 2011 Starcraft Islander. High profile or low profile?

I have a new 2011 Islander 221 I/O and I am going to need a cover when I unwrap the boat in the spring. I can't seem to find any specific cover for my boat but there are many semi-custom covers available. I need to know how my boat is classified. High or low profile? Walk around cuddy? It kind...

    Starcraft Islander dash pics?

Any Islander owners have a few pics of how they set up the dash? I would like to start buying a few things for my new 221 (compass, fish finder, radio) but before I start hacking away on a new dash I would like to see how others have mounted and organized the dash. Any recomendations for a compass?

Cut vent holes in shrink wrap?

I brought home our new Islander 221 a couple days ago and the dealer had wrapped it for transport and storage. I will be storing it inside, but unheated. The mechanic had told me many things about the boat and I believe he told me to cut a couple of holes in the wrap below the bow rail for...

    New boat break in?

After skinning my knuckles and doing many repairs (including welding the perches on a new axle, charging system repairs and many other things) I decided to buy new. I'm half way into the grave so I figure I should be spending more time on the water and less time fixing. I will leave that to you...
