    Mine was not self-draining. I installed a drain valve in the hose so I wouldn’t have to pull the hose to drain it.

    My outdrive had no play and it ”sounded” solid when knocked on. And it was rotten to the point that I could grab handfuls of it when exposed. Drill some holes, and if all is well, fill them thoroughly with 3M 5200 and no harm done.

    I added a battery with the Blue Sea kit and it wasn't hard at all. I used the opportunity to do some rewiring, added a fuse panel and consolidated electrical circuits to isolate the starting battery from everything that might drain it and leave me stranded. The Blue Sea kit makes it easy.

    I agree with this approach; if the fiberglass is flaking now, anything you put on top will likely flake off with the substrate.

    You’d be better off with a jump pack if that is your plan. Either way, you will have to find someway of charging the spare battery or jump pack; they won’t keep a charge forever.

    I overlapped and it was not terribly difficulty to fair it over later so it looked smooth. The 6 oz. is really thin when it's wetted out. I personally would prefer to fair using some sort of fairing compound added to the resin, rather than cabosil. Cabosil works, but it is MUCH harder to sand...

    Since the CSM helps the bond between the 1708 and whatever substrate it's being attached to, it always goes down against the substrate.

    Question on fuel

    Does the 5.0 require 91? My 350 Mag runs fine on 89 and it even runs OK on 87. I gas up at the station on the way to the river with gas with ethanol every time I go out. I'd be pretty surprised if your engine is that picky... If it were me, I'd fill up with 89 octane on the way to your launch...

    Question on fuel

    Any idea what the previous owner ran in it? It might already have gas with ethanol in the tank. In any case, I'd be surprised if ethanol would hurt a 2001 engine. I run it in my '97 engine exclusively.
