    Hockey fans!

Rushed home from the beach to catch the Rangers/Flyers game starting now. Winner makes the playoffs and the loser goes home for the season. These two teams usually put on a show, but this should be special!!!

    It's a Brave New World

I am at my son's tryouts for the school baseball team (52 degrees F - glad I'm not hitting - ouch). My internet provider put up wifi sites all over Long Island, so now I can bring my laptop to my kids' practices and get some work done or just peruse the forums. I wonder if I'll have service out...

    New puppy advice

Adopted a lab/shep mix pup in mid December. This dog is tremendously smart and after 5 weeks has every command down (sit, paw, down, stay, etc). Much smarter than my previous three golden retrievers. There is one problem I can't seem to solve. He mouths everyone he comes in contact with except me...

    And then there were eight...

Who do you think is going home with Vince's Cup in February? I would guess and like to see San Diego and New Orleans faceoff and the Saints take home the trophy.

    Oh dreaded night....

It has developed into a tradition with me to watch the Navy/Army game and then head out to the local malls to shop for Xmas gifts for the family. I am not a fan of malls, shopping, crowds... but it has to be done. I tried the online thing but was often disappointed with my choices not being...

    CMA award show last night

Let me start off by saying this is the opinion of a New Yorker who has limited exposure to country music other than the standards my dad used to subject us to at the top of his lungs on long car rides (Tom T Hall, Waylon&Willy, Hank Williams, etc..). This Taylor Swift is a beautiful young lady...

    Somali Pirates very active again

Since the M/V Alabama attack, piracy in the region slowed for a while until the last two weeks. Scores of attempted hijackings since October 1st. Below is the latest unclassified report from Naval Intelligence. We are sending 160 cadets out on merchant vessels in two weeks and concerns are very...

    Week 6 of the NFL

My NY Giants fell back to earth today and revealed a really weak secondary. The Saints offense is the real deal and is still the team to look out for at the end of the season. Brees and the offensive line had their way with us today. Hoping next Sunday nite we have an easier time with Arizona...

    Great software tool

A colleague of mine helped develop a chart program that overlays on Google Earth. This is a Beta version and is free for all. It has coverage nationwide with highlighted navigation aides and the advantage of satellite view of landmarks. I like it - hope you find it useful too...

    Week 5 of the NFL

My NY Giants had the good fortune to have another "bye week" playing with the Raiders this week after KC and the Bucs. We were up 28-0 after one quarter and never looked back. Hoping Eli heals up well (pun intended)! Looking forward to a big game next week in the land of Who dats! Just came...

    Week 4 of the NFL

My NY Giants made it look easy today over KC. Four and oh baby!! Team is looking good as a whole and looking forward to the rest of the season. Hopefully no let-down when we play Oakland at home next week. With Dallas and Washngton sporting two losses, and a banged up Philly, all is well in Big...

    Week 3 of the NFL

My NY Giants defense looked outstanding against a very weak Tampa Bay offense today. Gave up only 1 first down and 75 total yds until garbage time at the end of the fourth quarter. The running game was back and scoring in the green zone was nice to see. Was Tampa that bad or my NY Giants that...

    Week 2 of the NFL

Eli was mistake free and ultra-cool in a last minute drive to win the game. Running game is still suffering a bit. Receivers Manningham and Smith are looking sharp. Two big division wins to kick-off the season. Worth staying up till midnite even though I'm off to do some commercial fishing in...

    I Love September, But.....

...the shoreline doesn't! Lost three feet of beach in the last two weeks of coastal storms. Fire Island below: The storms have stirred up the inshore waters and messed up the fishing for a while. I think I might switch to hunting this week 'cus they're much easier to locate now!!!! Or I...

    Week 1 of the NFL

My Giants pulled out a victory Sunday, leaving only 18 more wins this year!!:D The offense was not outstanding:redface:, but the defense and kicking made up for it:p. Little disappointed in the running game and play calling..... How did your team play this week???

    Thanks Bill

Beautiful Sunday Morning on Long Island. 75 degrees and a clear sky at sunrise. Hardley a whisp of wind could be felt. Went down to the inlet at 5am to check conditions. 8'-12' with occasional big green 15' monsters crashing in the mouth. Instead of dragging up some flatties and making a buck, I...

    Thar she blows!!!!

Spotted off the beach Sunday. Think it's a Humpback frolicking in 30ft of water. Think he's gonna need a bigger boat to land that puppy!!! Lotsa inshore sightings this year.
