    Sometimes there is just enough water that the flywheel will sling it around when getting on plane. I can remember where the solenoid could not push the drive into the flywheel with rust on the shaft. That must be what the manual‘s instruction was about.

    I think you have the rear mounts installed correctly. At this point I would go ahead and mount the drives. If any of the rear mounting hardware was not in place or wrongly installed you would be able to tell by comparing from port to starboard.

    I had the mounts cut and re welded depending on how much “drop” I needed. Most times 1.5” worked out. Mercruiser did make a short mount but you will have to do some searching. I even kept a shortened one in stock.

    If you can get channelock pliers across and squeeze where the tube is kinked and then with a short 3/8’ drive extension in the tube while pulling you might be able to straighten it out enough. It does not have to be perfect.

    I bet that your fuel pump is not a genuine marine version. You should look into the correct pump for your engine. Does it have the Tygon hose from the side of the pump to the flame arrestor? Which engine do you have?

    A small bottle jack might work with some wood bridged across under the engines. I have worked on several 25s and I know they are a PITA to work on.
