    Stator Wiring

I am re-plugging the electrical plugs after "unplugging" to fix the head bearing assembly in my 200hp Evinrude. Should I use dialectric grease when putting it back together?

Picture of Surface Abrasion at Head Bearing Assembly

This is a picture of some slight surface abrasion I'm seeing after removing the head bearing assembly on my Evinrude 200, Vindicator, 1996. I understand that there's no need for any gasket sealer here, but from the factory there was a slight film of grey silicone--I think. Shouldn't I put at...

    Engine Rotation--Evinrude

I know it's a dumb one, but what direction is the engine rotation? Does that mean that rotating the flywheel the opposite direction is bad for the impeller?

    "Pitting" on the Mating Surfaces

I'm seeing some pitting on the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and the head bearing assembly. 200 Evinrude, 1996. Not major, but surprising to see that. I have older cars that look better. What causes that? There's no rust, just surface abrasions and pitting, apparently. Some of it looks...

    Re-Installing the Bearing Head/Evinrude 200 Vindicator

I better ask before I bolt it all in. What kind of lube should I use on the O-Rings around the head bearing assembly at the top of the engine? Should I use a "gasket maker" like Permatex Grey when I bolt that head bearing assembly back on? I assume I should coat the roller bearings in the...

Upper Head and Bearing Assembly Problems--I Think (Loose Bolts)

Guys, I need some help. I seem to recall an old "recall notice" from Evinrude about the top flywheel bolts, or the upper head and bearing assembly, possibly coming loose and suggesting they be checked. This issue was the torque and threadlock. I had mine checked, and they were "OK." Just now I...

    Bunk Carpet-How Much Overlap

I've got 12" wide bunk carpet for 2X4 bunks, which, by measurement are 11" around the edges (3.5X2 plus 1.5X2). Is one inch of overlap OK? My carpet is a good quality rubber backed indoor outdoor. Thanks all.

    Help on Bunks Again--Please

I haven't been on the lake in a rear!! Need new bunks, so here are a few questions: a) First, I assume the bunks jump shape themselves to the hull by the weight of the hull on the wet wood, and that it's totally normal that the new one look like they'll be sitting higher at first? b) After...

    Working on the Trailer

Where do you put the boat while working on the trailer if you don't have your own slip--and you're solo? I'm thinking of renting for one month so I can take my time on the trailer bunks. I can't see hogging a dock space for three hours.

    Carpeting the Trailer Bunks

I need to re-carpet the bunks. The last time I did this I used some kind of recommended carpet glue. Should I remove the old carpet or go right over it? What kind of carpet glue is best? Should I use a staple gun? Do I need to run the carpet groove pattern lengthwise with the bunks, or does...

    Thunderstorm On Engine

Dumb as I am, I forgot my garage door was open when a heavy thunderstorm hit while my engine (V6 Evinrude) sat for 20 minutes without its cowl on. The engine and flywheel were soaked, as well as all the wires, starter housing and air cleaner. I dried everything out with rags and compressed air...

    I Just Replaced my Impeller--Questions

It was more work than expected, but I got it back together--and now I'm fretting about a few things: 200 HP Evinrude a) Why no gasket between the lower end and the upper engine block? Is it full of water there anyway? b) I'm not positive I checked the pump housing to be sure that inner cup...

    Evinrude Impeller Replacement

Does anyone have a Web Page, Guide or "Hack" for replacing the Impeller in an Evinrude 200 hp outboard (1996 model)? I think I can handle it, but I could use some advice. Special tool to release shift mechanism? Any gaskets needed? Any guidance would be appreciated. thx

Oil in the Air Cleaner--V6 Vindicator 200 HP

I've got a great Evinrude outboard, and I've been relatively good about fogging it each winter. I've hardly used the boat in the 14 years I've owned it. The last time I went to the lake, it started up a bit rough and seemed for awhile that it may have been missing--like a spark skip or fouled...

    Minn Kota Composite Quick Release

Does anyone have experience with this "puck" system? It seems good, but an awful lot of weight is centered on a small area. Thanks all.

Trolling Motor Wiring/Plug: One Last Time

I thought I'd just posted this, but I don't see it, so here goes again: I've abandoned my old Evinrude 12/24 volt trolling motor due to problems with the power (it was very weak). That was a four wire system, direct from the batteries, to a four pronged Marinco plug at the bow. Well, that old...

New Minn Kota: Need Help With Wiring and Installation

OK, I finally broke down and replaced my 12/24 volt system with a straight 24 volt, 70 lb thrust bow mount unit. My old set up was two blacks and two reds from two batteries, with all wires terminating at the female end of a 4 pronged bow console plug. I'd like to leave that plug alone if I...

What Size Motor Do I need?

I have a 55 lb. Thrust bow mounted, foot controlled trolling motor on a 20' Stratos bass/ski boat that is equiped with a 200 HP Evinrude. I'm resigned to replacing my Trolling Motor. Should I replace it with that same size or should I go to a 70 lb thrust? The 70 will require that I replace...

Calling on Silvertip: Trolling Motor Wiring Again

With the volume of information you've given all of us on this subject, with literally dozens of posts and graphics as well, we ought to be indebted. I am, for one, but I'm going to bother you one last time if you might be able to help. Since the facts are important, here we go: a) Like new (but...

    Trolling Motor Mounts--Interchangeable?

My Evinrude bow mounted, foot-controlled 55 lb thrust mounts with two circular discs that slide into two short mounting sleeves on the bow. A thumb screw then holds it all in place. If I buy a Minn Kota, Motor Guide or other brand, will I have to discard those "discs" and redrill for new...
