    Changing colour of gelcoat question

I will stick with gel. It seems somewhat more durable on a boat than auto paint. The white gel is an ISO NPG exterior UV resistant marine gelcoat. Now, as far as the motor cover goes, it will go white also. I plan on putting a foam pad covered in marine vinyl in the seat color down the middle...

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Will it fade even with the 904? Did not think of the sun....... How resilient are the vinyl marine decals? I was thinking of decals over the blue or red. Now what about white?

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

I had a 1/4 quart of red gel. So it was suggested to gel the engine cover. Now I am torn between the Cobalt blue and the red for the hull.

Ok, thanks. I need more mat, so hence the question. I will just order chop strand and more resin.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Yes, next time I will use my respirator. Would surface veil E glass be good for sealing the wood instead of 1.5oz chop strand?

Started sealing the motor cover. Forgot how bad the resin stinks in a closed garage.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

I think the seat bench and rear seating will get fiberglassed to the floor. The floor is new, so to speak, I replaced the stringers, floor and foamed back a few years ago. The boat sat on the trailer for 3 years till now.

Finished the rear anchor seating. Just need to glass. Decided to go with 2 bucket seats instead of 1 and a lounge seat. Edit: The engine cover will lift with an electric actuator.

Up here in Canada, we pay triple your prices for most things. I don't want to be cheap, but I also do not want to waste money.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

That's what I bought on the weekend to start the rear seat project. Then I thought the normal exterior plywood rot out in a couple of years. Now I take it all 6 sides need to be sealed? This would be a lot easier on my pocket book. When attaching the main bench seat to the boat, would 4"x3"...

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Well, I priced the PVC sheet. With them bringing in a sheet of 1/4" it would cost 315. This is from Laird plastic. I think it is laminating 2 of my 5/32 sheets of Meranti together time. Realistically, I will redo, update the boat in another 5 to 7plus years. I still have to buy a walking foot...

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

I just priced some 5/8 Meranti marine ply,156 a sheet. For the peace of mind, I think before I do the other side, I will get a few sheets of it. Edit: Would 1/2 inch be ok if it is glassed?

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

My youngest son came up with an idea for seating. I was just going to put a big sun pad at the back. Now I made a frame for glassing. I used exterior plywood. I will have to seal every square inch with resin. I still have to price the pvc sheets tomorrow. The front Port box seat will have a...

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

I forgot I made gel coat laminates for the top of my sides many years past. Never thought of PVC sheets. They may be good for the bottom of my sides.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Not really, I was just thinking of a clean interior. Maybe I will laminate 2 of my panels together. That would be close to 3/8 thick. Then skip the fibreglass and use my foam and vinyl. Just thinking of different ways to finish the interior.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

An old picture of the interior of my boat. I want to make side panels of fibreglass. I picked up some 5/32 thick Meranti plywood. Would 2 layers of 1.5oz chop strand mat with 17oz 0-90 glass in the middle be strong, light enough. I will make arm rests made of vinyl and foam for comfort. This is...
