XADO Gel additive - is it snakeoil?

My car mechanic is working on Ms Triton's Ford EB-II Falcon 4.0L six running on dual fuel, and he wants to add an additive called XADO gel which he claims really works. The stuff is expensive but if it works like the website claims why aren't we all using it? Look at www.xado.com and please let...

    Ford Falcon problem

Ms Triton owns a 93 EB-II Ford Falcon 4.0L on dual fuel (i.e lpg and petrol). Yesterday she complained it started to run roughly and then it started to steam a bit from the exhaust pipe with a distinct smell of burnt coolant. The temp gauge started to climb but never got near the red sector. We...

    Prop blade out of true

My Yam 2003 FT60 13.5 x 15 original prop has one blade that is about 1mm out of true. The boat goes well, the motor doesn't vibrate and there is no physical damage to the blades... I just noticed this problem today while cleaning the prop. Is it a problem that needs fixing?

    Back on line

Well, after an absence of a month or so I finally figured out why I lost access to iboats. My ISP (Optusnet) says the main Australian ISPs (including IPRIMUS, OPTUSNET and BIGPOND) in the IP address range 210.29 to 210.31 have been blocked by iboats. They (Optusnet) claim they have tried to...

Is it OK to run gearcase oil level slightly low?

I changed the gearcase oil at my 250 hour service of my 03 FT60B Yam and got the level about right - dribbling out of the level plug just as I ran out of oil in the squeeze bottle. Unfortunately I spilled about 50ml (2 oz) of oil when I dropped the lower plug while trying to get it back in! My...

    Proud to be second

My youngest and eldest boys teamed up to sail in the NSW State Junior Heron Sailing Titles last weekend. They oh-so-nearly won the event but confused the last race course instructions and sailed out of the lead (by rounding an extra mark that wasn't part of the course) into second for second...

They'll get what they deserve - 55 years

Here in Sydney we have had some great news. Two Lebanese rapists convicted of a gang rape of a 16-year-old girl had their conviction overturned pending a retrial because it was discovered a juror had conducted some "illegal" lighting level tests at the rape scene without the consent of the...

    Yamaha model number

I have tried to get a workshop manual for my FT60BETL (2003 - the "high thrust" model) but yamaha.com only lists the F60TJRB and the F60TLRB. Is either of these the correct manual? Yamaha Aus are about as useful as a chocolate kettle hence my going to Yam USA.

A sunny day on Sydney Harbour

Despite a fairly ordinary wx forecast, the sun came out and so did the boats. Great fun to celebrate Australia Day this way... we had a blast!

This is the start of the annual Ferrython, a race up the harbour starting from near the Opera House, almost out to the heads and then back...

Start up after a brief layup

I've not run my FT60 Yam for three weeks and we're going out onto the Harbour on Wednesday for the Australia Day celebrations. Anything different I should do? This is the first time I've not used the boat for this length of time (normally twice or three times a week) and I wondered if I should...

    Trailer brake surge wires

Can anyone tell me if it is okay to use Stainless halyard wire instead of gal-steel wire on my trailer brakes? I ask because there's no doubt that the two different steels have different stretch/bending properties (the 2.5mm wire goes around a 30mm pulley at the nose of the draw bar.) I'd hate...

    Best tow speed for waterskiing?

My little brother has just arrived from the UK so we decided to take him out on the boat for a spot of water-skiing. He’s tried before and got up but looked terrible… almost bent over double with his arms bouncing (from the waves/wash crossings) straight out in front (he listened to the “keep...

Had the pleasure of boating with our friends from the USA

Mary and Doug were out here on a conference and we took them for a river cruise down to Botany Bay to see the sites and enjoy Saturday's beautiful weather. Then flathead for dinner. Great company from a couple of geniunely pleasant people who work hard and enjoy their R and R. They had to go...

    iboats... home PC won't find?

Can someone give me a clue as to why I cannot get the iboats home page or forums on my home PC (Pentium III with broadband, 512mB ram and 60gB hard disk... works well on everything else) yet it works on my home office PC which is to the same spec? I'm stumped...

    Tilt support struts

Apologies if this topic has been answered before... I did a search which didn't come up with anything so here goes.

I normally just use the swing over lock on my FT60B to hold the motor in the tilted up position. However, I only live a minute or so from the ramp so it should be fine...

    It's been 42 degrees C

Thank goodness! Here in way too sunny Sydney we've just had a storm (known here as a Southerly Buster) and the temperature has dropped to a very pleasant 25 degrees. Even better, it's looking good for the weekend... we're buying up for the BBQ and getting those rods and 'skis out!
